Ex-RAAF Boeing 707 Being Scrapped

Mon Aug 22, 2011 12:48 am

I know, I am hopelessly sentimental, but then again, if I weren't, I wouldn't be here on A.net. I last reported on the scrapping of two Caravelles in the US. I just found out that the former Royal Australian Air Force Boeing 707 that was ferried from Oz to the UK and last displayed at Fairford in 2006 is being dismantled. Having been stored at Manston since 2007, the aircraft was probably no longer airworthy, but the old girl certainly deserved beiing placed as a static display, as she was complete and had a passenger interior. The rumor mill has it that the cockpit will be lopped off and placed on display, but I cannot confirm this. Perhaps anyone out there knows?

The last picture of this aircraft on A.net is here:

I have compiled some links showing her slow demise:

With the scrapping of the 707 and VC-10 at Cosford, the Tu-114 and 154 in Moscow, the former Honeywell 720 at Phoenix, the two US Caravelles, Convair 990 "57 Charlie" at El Paso, and now this former Saudi 707-368C, time has not been kind to us fans of old civil airliners.

Great shots! Do you know if the Kuwait 747 has been parted out? As crazy as this sounds, I need to buy the upper deck interior panels of a 747 classic asap for a project. Any info will be appreciated. Cheers! juan@asia.com

It is sad to see the end of life for this old girl.
