Trident Missile Test Near LAX

Sun Nov 08, 2015 8:17 am

A Trident test took place overnight in the LA area.

This is one of the shortest, but an impressive video.

I was wondering why LAX flights were rerouted.

I guess that explains why UFO was trending on twitter.

We are used to having launches from nearby facilities. On October 21st we had a Minuteman launch from Vandenberg AFB.

SoCal is full of military ranges both off the coast and inland over the desert so any restrictions are published via Notam.
For example there is an active hot area published off shore until Thursday which was likely part of yesterdays submarine launch.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

Some of the comments on the Youtube videos are hilarious.

Saw this in its entirety from Santa Barbara -- sitting in a terrace with my Model UN delegation, of all things (the running commentary along the lines of "chemtrails!" was fairly amusing).

Really is quite interesting how many people in SoCal don't know about all the military action going on in the area. Every once in a while we have something like this happen and people flip.

This picture is particularly impressive.

Do they tell the russians in advance about those tests? I am pretty certain they do. Is there any special system/database where those tests are announced, so to avoid bad surprises?

That video looked like something in search of a giant ovum.

In this case, the Chinese and Russians were informed there would be a test somewhere, but the location was kept a tight secret, so nobody on the outside expected it where it happened.

One of the things that goes through my mind (that also goes through my mind when I see Fifi at an airshow) is that if this was the real deal that site is one of the last thing that hundreds of thousands of people would see.

I was watching that video and thought at the time that Armageddon was going to be really beautiful, right up till the point everyone was fried to a crisp.......at least at night anyway.

If that shot is from 300 miles away, how big must that plume be?

If you watch the video of the time lapse image, you will see the plume was barely visible. Less than a second of arc on the image. Very easy to miss in real-time.

But zoomed in several hundred times and enhanced to bring out the spectrum - it looks really impressive.

My thoughts exactly.

On another note, over on jalopnik they had a great blog post that breaks down the video of this really well, to the point where they highlight the MIRVs being ejected. I'd link to it but it's blocked at work.

Can you share the link to this? Thanks

Thanks. Man, that "flip turn" detail is pretty cool. And isn't that want you want to see during a test? It actually works.

I'm not sure the Russians (old Soviet stuff) can stay that.

Maybe not, but it hardly matters - their new (aka Russian, not Soviet) stuff can do it just as well as the western stuff.

Except maybe the Bulava, but that's really new and probably just has kinks that need ironing out. They just conducted a two-missile salvo test a few days ago.

Cheers
