Tundra excursion for a Tu-22 bomber after high-speed abort. Amazing that no fuel ignited when wings clipped trees.

Excursion was undertaken indeed (plowing, possibly for agricultural purposes), but no Tundra was involved: the accident happened in Volgograd region; this is almost as far as it gets away from Tundra in European part of Russia.

Wow. Thank goodness there was no fire.

It seems like a late abort decision?

By the way, the Backfire is designated Tu-22M. The Tu-22 is the older, less capable Blinder. My understanding is the confusing designation is a matter of politics - keeping the program alive by portraying it as an update to fix shortcomings of the Blinder, not a brand new program.
