Can they even afford a replacement?

You do realise this is Norway, money isn’t really an issue.

Not if they open the coffers, but if they want to keep it within the defence budget it would be an entirely different story. Didn't they also have problems crewing all 5 ships?

An appropriation like this would always be a supplemental one. You don't budget for incompetent pilots sinking your ship.

You have the crew for that:

Thus looks like they have one ship less to have a crew assigned.

Why is the NH90 such a failure in so many respects? Everyone who ordered it saw delays and cost increase. I think the Dutch still experiences some operational difficulties. Such a shame for such a beautiful machine.

There is far too much customization versions. The Swedish high cabin version being an astonishing example.

Apart from the aldrimer.no article posted by the OP, is there any recent indication that Norway still considers cancelling orders? I haven't been able to find anything.

This fairly recent FFI report indicates that the NH90 meets the requirements: https://www.ffi.no/no/Rapporter/18-01722.pdf
The Coast Guard seems to be happy as well: https://www.flightglobal.com/news/artic ... rd-451990/

Based on the information that's available, I don't think it's likely that Norway will not put all 14 NH90 that were ordered into service.
