AG600 Kunlong. The plane can carry 50 people and can stay airborne for 12 hours.
The plane has been eight years in development, has a maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tonnes and a wingspan of 38.8m (127ft).
There are 17 orders already from within China.

World's largest amphibious aircraft...currently in production/development/in service

In terms of the absolute record; it's not even close. But I like it's design, the whole concept, and I wish it every success.

I promised myself I'd leave before the party turned ugly. I would quit at 1000 !
Here I am stuck at 994; each time I'm tempted to post, I find myself wondering who will even read it / what is the point?
Or maybe I've just got nothing left to say.

This is an interesting development. Both as as a search and rescue and a firefighting aircraft, I feel this deserves mention in the Civil Aviation forum.

How is it billed as the world's largest amphibious aircraft when the Beriev A-40 Albatros outsize and outweigh it by much?

AG600
Length: 36.9 m (121 ft 1 in)
Wingspan: 38.8 m (127 ft 4 in)
Height: 12.1 m (39 ft 8 in)
Max takeoff weight: 53,500 kg (117,947 lb)
Powerplant: 4 × WJ-6 turboprops, 3,805 kW (5,103 hp) each

A-40
Length: 43.84 m (143 ft 10in)
Wingspan: 41.62 m (136 ft 6 in)
Height: 11 m (36 ft 1 in)
Max. takeoff weight: 86,000 kg (189,630 lb)
Powerplant: 2 × Soloviev D-30KPV turbofans, 117.7 kN (26,455 lbf) each
Takeoff boosters: 2x Kolesov RD36-35 turbojets, 23 kN (5,180 lbf) each

I believe the A-40 (A-42) is not being produced.

https://www.globalsecurity.org/military ... a/a-42.htm

In 2012 the Russian Navy declined the new A-42 amphibious aircraft project. The military confirmed the suspension of funding for research and development at the Taganrog aviation scientific-technical complex (BERIEV AIRCRAFT COMPANY) Company. In fact, this meant closing all of the jet amphibian aircraft in Russia.

Yes, I'm well aware that only a single prototype was flown long ago but its still the largest, factually.
They should qualify their statement as something along this line:

Wouldn't the largest be the Spruce Goose?

The spruce goose - afaik - did not have landing gear and was never intended to have one.

Looks very old school compared to what Beriev offered.

My favorite being the Be-200.

nonamphibious flying boats:
Hercules H4 ( 160t).
BV238 (100t) would be larger too. Princess (156t), Mars (74t), ..

Hey guys,
Are India and Indonesia still interested in purchasing this aircraft?
I seem to remember that Vietnam was rumoured to be interested too...

India has never been interested. It is seen as a market by Russian industry but right now India isn't pursuing any amphibs apart from the Japanese Shinmaywa US-2.

Hey angad84,
Sorry, I mixed up the two amphibians. Yes, I was thinking of the Japanese US-2.
I guess that Indonesia might be interested in the US-2 as well. Not sure about Vietnamese though.

Would China even sell them to Vietnam? One of the reasons they would need them is to move quickly to their islands but China has claimed many and probably would not want any contesting of them.

Hey Tugg,
I agree that China versus Vietnam over the South China Sea may take precedence over aircraft sales.... So I guess that IF Vietnam was in the market for large amphibians Japan may get the order by default alone.
