I understand it´s the same approach as Airbus having a production line in the US now ...

But it´s still more a European "brain child" adapted to US needs.
I´m fine with that and I know it happens in many other fields too but I´m still scratching my head why societies in general fool themself by somehow pretending it´s "home made" ...

could it be that it was built for US use by Boeing Vertol?

Built is in the eye of the beholder. Final assembly of a US customized version can still be considered "built in USA". Better still if all, most components, came from US suppliers but with such a small production run thats not likely.
Anyone know how much of the UH72 is actually manufactured in the US?

Had to be at least 50% content to meet the US DoD acquisition rules but it wouldn't be hard to source enough US content to meet the requirements.
