Given the fact that Merkel and her administration had taken an outspoken Anti-Trump position during the 2016 campaign and even after Trump had been elected President of the USA, I can understand quite well that Trump was quite unhappy in this situation (it was the first time he met Merkel) and did refuse handshake.

The A340 has a rather unremarkable history with airlines.
you can't say the same for the 787 ( terrible teen or not.)

What I still would like to understand and maybe the experts can help: Is there really a power distribution system in the A340 that can take out multiple subsystems at the same time? Wouldn't this create a single point of failure?

- Lufthansa Technik maintains the plane
- not only did the fault disable the comms system, but also disabled dumping fuel (at CGN, the plane landed overweight)
- LH Technik made an error during maintenance. When they installed the digital comms system in 2010, they didn't document the changes in the pilot's handbooks.
- on the flight, the crew then used the outdated procedures, which did not work on the newer comms system
- at first, a defect soldering joint in a AC-DC converter caused a short-time power failure
- after about 70 seconds, emergency power also failed
- this, in turn, caused the inability to dump fuel

The culprit were several defective electrical components. Only through the sequence of events it was discovered that the handbooks were outdated, too...

The plane will stay on ground till end of January, also for routine checks. In the "Theodor Heuss", the other government 340, the relais and transformers have been exchanged as a precautionary measure.

This is quite surprising. But thanks for the report!

Still the Luftwaffe should have a back-up ready for Merkel. They could have taken a goose during take-off, or developed another pan. The BundesKanzler to a tense G20, it doesn't get more serious often.

LH has rebutted the allegations.
Department of Defense is in line with LHTechnik.
Looks like the "confidential report" is another "Der Spiegel" invention

As told in the news here Tonight German DoD/Luftwaffe got the information but forgot to tell the pilots.
... i.e. add it to the manuals.
