NASA announces next New Frontiers mission: Dragonfly rotorcraft to Titan

Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:14 pm ... s-of-life/

This is an intriguing concept. The amount of ground it will be able to cover compared to a rover is great - the release from NASA talks about covering a total of 175km by the end of its mission, and says that is early double what has been covered by all the Mars rovers to date.

Now it does beg the question, would accept a photograph taken from Dragonfly which shows the view below with part of the aircraft in frame...

It is not for him to pride himself who loveth his own country, but rather for him who loveth the whole world. The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens. —Bahá'u'lláh

Wow... That's bold. Even for NASA.

I mean, flying a massive multi-engine drone autonomously over an unknown surface, with no precise navigation means, in a -180 degrees, 1.5 bar atmosphere where it regularly rains methane, after an 8 year deep space journey and landing, and which needs to be launched within a tight deadline?

And I thought the Webb telescope was a crazy project...

Good luck to them. This will be a real nail biter, I can't wait.
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.
