What's Going On? Egyptian C-130 In Baltimore

Fri Sep 27, 2019 12:13 pm

I just saw an Egyptian Air Force C-130 flying in the Baltimore area and turn on base for the 15R approach. What's up?

It shows up at Tinker AFB from time to time as well...I've probably seen it 20 times over the past 12 years. Not a big deal. Foreign military aircraft come here all the time for exercises.

Foreign governments also use military aircraft to transport items needed for their diplomats,

No, but when receiving clearance, ATC requested that they squawk like an Egyptian.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the very first Fokker airplane built in the world. The Dutch call it the mother Fokker.

I shot an Egyptian C-130 at BWI around 2008. You could see the exhaust trails before the aircraft.

They’ve been coming here for years (usually 2-3 times a month, almost always on a Monday) to exchange diplomatic pouches and pick up consumer goods like appliances, computers, auto parts, etc. Sometimes they come to visit Johns Hopkins. On a related note, BWI recently hosted a Pakistani Air Force Il-78 tanker. Definitely the rarest plane I’ve seen!

Foreign military aircraft will also visit the US to pickup parts for their US manufactured aircraft.
In the DC area alone I have seen Belgian, French, Pakistani, Saudi, Brit, Singapore, Japan,
Turkish, Israeli, etc. The list is long and nothing out of the ordinary about it.

Yeah. That's what got my attention. Saw the exhaust as I looked up to see if the FedEx A300 was nearby.
