Israeli Government 767-338 4X-ISR first photo

Mon Nov 04, 2019 6:31 pm

Hey guys!

I didn't see it posted already, but as it's not mine, I'll just post the link. Here she is, Israeli Government B767-338 4X-ISR. This aircraft has been the cause of a lot of tumultuous articles in Israel. Many Benjamin Netanyahu detractors are seeing this as another demonstration of his extravagant lifestyle. The ex Austrian Airlines aircraft is 20 years old, and total cost has risen to about 206M$!

A 20 yr old 767 doesn't seem unreasonable for what is a fairly wealthy country
US$206m seems completely unreasonable

Except that the aircraft was worked over pretty well, with the installation of secure communications equipment, and god knows what else the Israeli's kitted the bird out with. IAI is a very competent outfit for overhauling and modifying aircraft.

 Even if a bit old, that is one gorgeous looking plane! I wonder why they did not go for a winglet-equipped 763? :scratchchin:

The registration is quite apt as it presumably has a rudimentary ISR gear for self-protection and security?

If $206 M is all it comes out to for a head-of-state airplane, I think you're doing fine. What is the 748 Air Force One project currently looking at? A couple billion? I wish we could get away with $200 M...

As ThePointblank mentions, there's a lot that goes into those kinds of birds. Amenities sure, but also comms and all sorts of accessory gear. I'd be curious if other photos come out and show any details of the fuselage, (looking for self-defense systems and such).

I could see PM Netanyahu getting flack over it, but it's not like he's going to take it with him when he leaves government. The next head of state gets to use it.
