Mad Mike Hughes - Tests, Launches, Developments

Sun Feb 23, 2020 3:50 pm

In a noble act for the benefit of Science herself, Mad "Mike" Hughes hurled himself towards the sky.

Sadly, his only parachute detached prematurely, and the parabola of his flight didn't extend far enough to answer his Final Question.

RIP, Spaceman Extraordinaire.

Um not spaceman extraordinaire at all. He was trying for 5,000' which wouldn't prove anything. You can take an airline flight and get to 40,000' and still see no curvature. Flying on the Concorde back in the day would have got you to 60,000' where you could see the curvature. Or go to Russia and buy a flight on a Mig-25 and go even higher. All better options than what dumbass did.

But... but..... but.... :hissyfit:

I believe it wasn't about proving anything about the earth. He "outed" himself as a flat-earther only when he learned that the gullible Flerfer crowd would supply him with "research grants."

Agreed, in the end he was a guy who just loved doing his stunts, get attention, build makeshift rockets in his backyard, I bet he had fun and got a sense of purpose out of it.
A bunch of people got entertained enough to give him some money, maybe curious to see of he managed to kill himself, which he eventually did, but without hurting anyone in the process.
May he rest in peace, there's far worse people than him in this world.
If God had wanted men to fly he would have given them more money...

Wrong. He is disqualified from the award as he had successfully passed on his genes to the next generation.

RIP. The world will always need knights jousting at windmill to prove chivalry however misguided, is still gallant.

And what he did was a bit safer, too.

The Chinese agents infiltrated into the FBI have sabotaged his rocket so that he couldn't expose the round earth conspiracy, for sure !

You seem to know a lot for a “casual observer”...

The man lived more than 99% of people could ever dream. 64 years of cheating death and ignoring sanity and reality. The fact that he went out in that crazy stunt instead of choosing to molder away in safety and obscurity for another few years says a lot about him and says a lot about the people who belittle him.
Live on in your cocoon of ease and safety if that's your choice. But that's harder for me to understand than some lunatic who chooses to shout at the storm.

Yes. That's an admirable quality of his.

To his credit, he did lead the true daredevil lifestyle and went out doing it.

But regardless of his actual personal beliefs, he'll always be known as that flat earth moron who launched himself up the height of some buildings in a rickety homemade rocket, then killed himself. If you pretend to be stupid, don't be surprised when people associate you with stupidity.
