Sikorsky wins contract to build six more VH-92A ‘Marine One’ helicopters

Mon Feb 24, 2020 5:44 am

https://www.flightglobal.com/helicopter ... 75.article suggests that VH-91 is ticking along without generating any controversy, as opposed to the VH-71 that generated so much heat here and elsewhere.

Anyone have any info on how well the program is doing beyond this report?
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has its beaches, its homeland and thoughts of its own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
The heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own

Just a quick question why do the Marines need 23 helicopters to transport one man?

Need multiple ac for decoys, and availability at multiple locations.

Presumably they also transport other government officials etc, not only POTUS?

Just POTUS, his family, and whomever happens to be traveling with him.

Incorrect.

"Today HMX-1 also supports the Vice President, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Navy, Commandant of the Marine Corps, and all visiting Heads of States in the Washington, D.C. area."

HMX-1 does provide support to all of those listed. However, the "White Top" helicopters only carry POTUS as the previous poster said. HMX-1 has ten or so V-22s for other support functions.

There are green tops and white tops for the VH-3D fleet. Some are also more colorful in their history than others. The pope, among many VIP pax, has ridden (without POTUS) in the HMX-1 fleet of VH-3D’s multiple times. Here is a good tale of one airframe’s journey;
