Blue Angels NYC Flyover 4/22/2020

Wed Apr 22, 2020 3:26 pm

I've seen information floating around on the internet, facebook and twitter regarding the Blue Angels that the Thunderbirds doing a fly-over of the NYC metro area to show support/thanks for our health care workers.

Does anyone have any info on this, how and if they can be tracked? Apparently they are supposed to be around the ISP/FRG/JFK area around 3pm est. today.

That was the plan, but latest I heard (last night) was it was going to be postponed to a later date. That's from my sources in the NYC aviation world.

According to website thedrive.com, the Blue Angels AND the Thunderbirds have been down in Pensacola training together for a special national tour of joint formation fly overs of major cities along both coasts, a split tour through the central US, followed by another group of joint shows in Texas.

This should probably be over in the military and space forum.

I dont have NYC info, but they are continuing to TTN PHL ILG, down the Delaware river, with a side circle over downtown Philly around 1pm.
Im guessibg NYC is going on now, then coming to Philly, or will happen after Philly.. Also it is Blue Angels AND Thunderbirds in a joint operation

Seems to be wishful thinking. They flew around Pensacola yesterday. Both teams together. Saw a video of it. Saw a video of them arriving there Monday. Blues are denying this is going to happen. I’m no good at linking stuff here so sorry no links. Have no idea why the thunderbirds are in Pensacola

The Drive is best taken with an unhealthy amount of salt.

It'll happen. Just not today and not tomorrow.

I hope it does. I’m just not pinning my hopes on The Drive.

The President basically announced this this evening. Will be nice to see. Also now heard some of the single ship demos will be involved. Read that f16’s we’re practicing using red and blue smoke. Same with the thunderbirds.

I'm sure many will criticise as being a waste of money, but compared to the number of airshows that have were planned I'm sure it's a drop in the bucket.

Hope they make it more of a tour and come to my area!

They have cancelled a bunch of shows because of COVID-19, but the money was already allocated, and they still need flight hours to stay proficient. The money isn't likely to be any different.

I suspect there's going to be a lot of rejigging of the show schedules for all military demo teams; for example, I know the RCAF's Snowbirds are grounded right now, and they were still in their winter training when that happened.

It certainly looks like they are practicing together, regardless of what the Blue Angels say. I wonder if they want to avoid publishing any kind of schedule to avoid people gathering in crowds?

Well, I'm convinced. I'll give it until tomorrow morning for him to basically announce the exact opposite and call earlier statements fake news.

Politics aside, I hope the Blues and T-birds work out. Amazing and unique show it would be!
