Nice article about the Dutch Government's Boeing 737BBJ

Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:05 pm

This is a nice article (with pictures) about the Dutch Government's Boeing 737BBJ that is also used by their royal family. An interesting tidbit is that their King quietly spent 21 years as a KLM Fokker 70 FO and also is qualified & flies as a FO on this BBJ.

Great article, thanks for sharing. I'm a big fan of the emphasis on transparency given it's in fact the Dutch public who are paying for this. Also interesting that some of the forward executive seats don't seem to recline into a full 180-degree flatbed.

Do they contract the crewing to KLM? I see a KLM flight attendant in one of the photos.

Thanks for sharing. It appears a fairly restrained fitout in the scheme of things.

PH-KBX was purchased by Alliance Airlines and is now VH-KBX, based at BNE (although rarely used, even before COVID)

It seems that Alliance got a "cream puff" of a low-time Fokker 70.

The interior of the Dutch Gov't BBJ seems pretty close to Boeing's "base" interior (maybe the shower is optional). I imagine that KLM does the training and maintenance for this jet. As for crewing, I imagine that they use KLM-trained military pilots for security reasons, but the (hand-picked/security-screened) FA's might come from KLM.

Operating a twin over the ocean, you're always one engine failure from a total emergency.
