There was a lot of mil activity in the area this morning, including a convoy of 3x KC-135 and a B-52. Any suggestion of a collision ?

The 3x KC135 and B52 were already in the area with a different training tasking. Whether they were drafted in to join the SAR, who knows, but it wouldn’t make sense if they were

Possibly a mid-air collision during formation flying?

The Telegraph (UK) reports "One of the planes was later seen landing, reportedly with a cracked canopy."

It’s believed to be unrelated. The F15 with the cracked canopy “PANTHER1” limped back to Lakenheath significantly after the original incident.

PANTHER1 was part of an exercise already taking place south of the incident area, note the other jets in the area “TRIPLE71/72” the RAF Eurofighters, the KC135 and A330MRTT “TARTAN19” also involved.

Visibility is down to near zero in the search area, a ton of U.K. civilian SAR aircraft, UK Coastguard, Lifeboats, RAF and USAF equipment still out there at the moment.
