ADSBexchange says it's a C-17 operating out of McGuire. Good call sign for one, but the C-5s out of Travis using "HEFTY" are still better.

Defiantly sounds military. Surprised it’s on flight aware.

Very occasionally they slip through the filter.

They've actually been slipping through quite often. I don't know if someone flipped a switch down in Houston, but flightaware has been displaying all sorts of military flights over the last couple of weeks. c-17s and kc-135s and I've even seen some fighters.

"HEFTY" is a good one. but not as good as "SLAM" out of March AFB.

BEEF is the unit call sign for C-17s assigned to the 6th Airlift Squadron out of McGuire, the “Bully Beef Express”. ‘GUCCI’ is the static call sign for the 9th ARS out of Travis AFB. Definitely my favorite.

The flight history would look odd to anyone not familiar with how C-17 locals often work but is completely normal to anyone who is. Essentially, the jet flew a 4-5 hour local, probably including a VFR low-level, perhaps some receiver work with a local KC-10 or KC-135. It then landed at McGuire and did a full-stop taxi back - basically land, do something like deplane/enplane crew members - and then took back off again. 10 minutes on the ground rules out a combat on/offload practice. Once airborne again, they did some tactical arrivals and departures, then full-stopped.

Very busy flight, but it’s outstanding practice and everyone gets something out of it.

Most ADS-B-equipped military aircraft are on FlightAware if you look for them.

In my experience Radarbox is the best tracker to use for military flights. Look at, say Oklahoma City during the day, you will see loads of Texan trainers and other military flights. They do not show on FlightRadar24 at all and I find FlightAware harder to use. I subscribe to both FlightRadar24 and Radarbox and I find Radarbox has far more military aircraft tracked. Even the occasional B-52. Lots of C-17 and KC-135s and RC-135s.
