Military plane lading at LGA?

Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:21 pm

Just saw a military C-130 type plane about to land at LGA, haven't seen that before.

I think it might be a special occasion, where they will drop parachuters to Central Park today.
How fun :)

The US Navy Leap Frogs are scheduled to conduct a parachute landing into Central Park. That is indeed why the plane is at LGA.

The “good part” about COVID, at least from a military aviation standpoint, was that leadership and ATC were much more accepting of our aircraft doing pattern work at fields that would otherwise laugh at our requests to drop in for an approach or two.

We’ve done touch-and-go’s at Oakland and SFO in the KC-10 in the last year. Airports we’d otherwise not see unless diverting for wx or IFEs.

Is it normal for them to use an Air Force C-130?

It’s got a ramp 8-)

It probably came down to tail availability: the Keesler unit could support it. Maybe the USN C-130 units couldn’t.
