New Herks for MAFFS?

Fri Oct 22, 2021 6:41 pm

While making lunch and enjoying the USAF Academy flyovers, I noticed that C-130J-30 02-1464 was painted up in full high visibility numbers as MAFFS 4, bright da-glo orange (with orange patches on the leading edges of the wings). Callsign OCEAN99.

Here at COS, we have one of the MAFFS Hercules units, operating some FY 94 airframes under the SUMMIT callsign. I hadn't heard rumblings of moving to the -J model for firefighting however all the low-level ops on these newest of -H models must be taking their toll.

I think COS is slated to stay in H3s for awhile.

02-1464 is a 146AW, CA ANG machine from Point Mugu (Channel Islands ANGS). I recall they are one of the MAFFS units. 146AW are an all C-130J-30 unit now.
