Pelosi Flight to Taiwan Most Tracked Flight Ever

Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:27 pm

Apparently US Speaker of the House Pelosi's C-40 Flight from Malaysia to Taiwan was the most tracked Flight ever in the history of Flightradar 24 and actually caused some computer difficulties at the flight tracking site. And check out the route the aircraft took, completely avoiding the South China Sea.

Calls sign was SPAR19.

Flightradar24 was unusable for hours this morning. I had some problems with Flight Aware, too.

I was curious also, but instead of going to FR24, I went to a live YouTube chanel that was tracking the flight on FR24 :D

I got a message from Cloudflare, saying fr24 was being protected from excessive traffic. It turned into quite the circus. Cloudflare offers denial of service protection, it throttles traffic so the site doesn't crash.

What will her egress be? I’m guessing east to Guam under the cover of the US Naval ships that are sailing east of Taiwan.

Still must visit Japan and South Korea. So most likely northeast, skirting the East China Sea.

Interesting that it was visible on FR. As 'SPAR' callsigns aren't always visible there.
So it means they (USAF) wanted it to be seen by a large audience?

When you know you're innocent, you cannot complain about "too many witnesses".

The routing was presumably to avoid Chinese military bases/assets in the disputed islands of the South China Sea.

Sorry this might be off topic but how does the C40 differ from the 737, any military modifications, protections?

According to the famous website that anybody can edit:

C-40B: VIP aircraft for transporting senior U.S. military commanders. Has sleeping suites and far superior communication capabilities than the civilian 737. Additionally, some business class seating with working tables.

C-40C: Is a transport plane without sophisticated comms for the needs of high-ranking government officials and the Congress. 42 to 112 passengers, depending on the installed seats.

Pelosi's plane was the C model.

https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets ... 21/c-40bc/

This more trust worthy website also does not mention any self protection.

However it does suggests military grade communication gear.

Visually, you do not see the bumps and protrusions typically seen for missile warning and protection systems.

Along with the military grade electronics, you'll probably get extra shielding in all the relevant wiring.

Not sure if the cabin is EMI shielded though.

Mrs. Pelosi is now flying back, and she's over (formerly) Russian airspace now. Maybe the bird is taking a short nap in Anchorange...

Breakfast perhaps. Would not make it to DC with just a bowl of Bibimbap. Or did she have sushi?
