Boeing C-32 Replacement?

Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:35 pm

Hello all.

As we are soon approaching the new 747-8s that will replace the 747-200s, what will then happen to the C-32/757-200 fleet? Is there a timeline on those aircraft needing replacement? Do we think the strategy is to wait until Boeing creates a new aircraft type? It would also make sense that the 737/C-40B/Cs will be replaced by MAX aircraft when the time comes. But what about the C-32? Thoughts?

Also, will all the aircraft sport a new livery once the 747-8s launch with a rumored new look?

My bet is on another 767/KC-46 variant. If they need something smaller, then another C-40 type would be developed. It's all about commonalilty here.

Rumored look for a new livery on AF1 is all but dead now, so don't look for any surprises. Update maybe, but no surprises.

Given how long the new AF1 is taking and is now projected to be Sept 2026 - it could be back to Trump's scheme if he wins in 2024.

    It looks nice.

Dare I say the MAX 10 as a C-32 replacement? Wouldn't that be interesting, especially with all the hullabaloo going on with the FAA and Congress.

My opinion is that we'll see a mix of MAX's and (V)C-46 to go along with the 747-8 AF1. Spend it like it's not yours!

The C-32A series are currently planned to remain in service until 2040, though that is probably subject to change.

These planes get alot fewer hours/year than the ones in commercial service. It therefore makes more economic sense to keep using the paid-for hardware longer. Economically, these should be some of the last 757s replaced with newer hardware. As of 2020 over 60% of the 757s ever built were still flying. Also, there is no direct replacement.

If the USAF plans to fly them to 2040 ... that's a long time but it's good they're not up for immediate repalcement.

A KC-46 with a modular VIP cabin might make the most sense. Plus maybe some Gulfstreams or Globals for smaller groups of people.
