Until 2020, the French Air Force operated 2 VIP A340-212 (F-RAJA-B) which were delivered in 2006 from original user Austrian Airlines, where they flew as OE-LAG/H since new, in 1995. The French Air Force sold them in 2021 to a French support and management firm. by the name of LMO Aero, which after registering them as F-HFDD/HLMG, eventually sold them in 2022 to a yet unnamed Mali firm, assigning them Malian registrations TZ-DTA/C. In spite of their Malian owners, the planes never went to Mali but instead ended up in Kertajati, West Java, Indonesia. According to Taghavee, the Malian firm is a front company, whose real owner is none other than Mahan Air, the airline owned and operated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC.
The 2 A340-212s were stored in Indonesia until last week, when paperwork was filed for passage to Mali. As you may guess by this point, the planes never arrived in Mali, as the flight plans filed were changed inflight, ending up, instead, in Iran. One landed in Chabahar, in South Iran, and the other in 10th Tactical Fighter Base of the IIAF,
According to Taghavee, these planes are being procured for a government-owned airline in Iran.
