How To Make Model Of DNA Helix?

Sun Oct 01, 2000 1:07 am

Hey everyone,
I am in Grade 9 honors Biology, and by October 29th, we have to have made a model of a DNA helix, with 20 gene pairs at least on the model.
Has anyone done this before? If so, can you tell me how you did yours. There are 2 restrictions, it has to be 3 dimensional, and it cannot be made of food products. I know this is a very common project in High School, so I hope you guyz can give me some feedback on it. Thanx
Arrivederci

A double helix or just a helix?

Your best bet would to make one side at a time- and then connect them. I would use Model magic (Can find it in like Target or any craft store- Crayola makes it) It doesn't break easily but molds like clay.

Kinda like this, but make it in the curved stair case fashion:
I- -I <-G +C
I- -I <- A+T
I- -I <- G +C
I- -I <- A+T
I- -I <- G+C

And so forth- then attach with rubber cement or any strong glue.

Can't quote me on this- never did it- but it's worth a shot!
