Has Anyone Been To Wichita?

Wed Oct 04, 2000 6:51 am

I'm interviewing with a company Thursday for an internship for next semester. It's a great company, and it's based in Wichita, so that's where I'd be spending my next semester, from January through June. Does anyone know anything about the city? Is it a nice place to live? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I know that Wichita is home to that extremist religious group that goes around the country holding up signs that say "God hates fags" and "AIDS cures fags" at gay people's funerals. Isn't that lovely? So if you enjoy doing that sort of thing, there's a fine group of folks in Wichita waiting to welcome you into their fold.

Doesn't Boeing have some operations in Wichita?

Rest assured, TWFirst, that this is not the type of work I would be doing in Wichita, if I am selected for the internship. While I do believe that Boeing has an operation at Wichita, I would be there with a different Aircraft corporation.

Witchita is the center of the world, when it comes to general aviation. Boeing does has an operation their. Textron's Cessna is based in Witchita. Citations are manufactered at McConnell Air Force Base I believe, and the pistons are made out in Independence, KS. Raytheon's GA (Beech) also calls Witchita home. As well as Bombardier's LearJet division. I assume you are working for one of the above mentioned companies.

That's correct, Desertjets - it's one of those companies. I'm interviewing with Raytheon. I'm up against 5 other applicants who were selected for interviews, so I hope I do well!
