Just so y'all know, the highest OCCUPIED floor of the Sears tower is 80' above the highest occupied floor of the Petronas Towers. The top of the antenae on the top of the Sears tower is also higher than the top of the spire on the top of the Petronas Towers. But the top of the spire is 20' higher than the highest occupied floor on the Sears tower. So 'officialy' decorative spires count, antenea's don't. Go figure.

It goes so:
Tallest structure without cables: CN Tower
Tallest structure: Warshaw Antenae (near Plock)
Tallest scyscreaper (without antenaes): Petronas
Tallest scyscreaper (with antenaes): Sears Tower

I don't thing New York's World Trade Center has(d) any of highest buildings.

Tallest Scyscreapers list (without antenaes, correct me if I am wrong):

1.Petronas Twin Towers (Kuala Lumpur)
2.Sears Tower (Chicago)
3.World Trade Center (New York)
4.Hanckook Center (Chicago)
5.Transamerica Center (San Francisco)
6.Empire State Building (New York)
7.Chrysler Building (New York)
8.Eiffel Tower (Paris). Don't know why it's ussually counted as building, not tower.

The true list is in the lobby of Sears Tower, Chicago.

I seen Sears, WTC, Hanckook, Transamerica, Empire State, Chrysler buildings and Eiffel Tower from these.

According to my skyscrapers book. Now that Twower 1 and 2 are gone. Empire State Building is back in the top 5. Chrysler Building is in the top 10. Trans America is also in the tope 10. But what about the commerce building (biggest in LA)?

According to the book it looks like the Chineese have the top spot with the new building in Shanghai. Does this mean the Petronas is down to #2?

What do you all smoke? Trans america (SF) is not even in the top 100, and yes First Interstate Commerce (Los Angeles) is #10. That is the cylindrical shaped building that gets womped in that silly Indepence Day movie

That ugly thing is the biggest building in LA!?! I guess the aliens did one thing right  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I saw it 2 times from a passing car. But ugly indeed. I more into the Woolworth and Metlife buildings (built in 1909 located in downtown Manhatten) as well as the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. They have more of a style to them that existed in the 20s and 30s. Plus the lobbies of the buidlings are built with the beautiful stone Quartz, Granite, Marble, etc craftsmanship that you rarly see anywhere They are also more famous and have a great style to them. But if I did have to go with a more modern building . Sears Tower would be it.

Tallest buildings in Fort Wayne, Indiana

1) One Summit Square 442'
2) National City Bank Building 351'
3) Lincoln Tower 255'

Lincoln Tower was built in the 20s during the depression. It's design was inspired by the Tribune building in Chicago. It was the tallest building in Indiana until the 70s. One Summit Squ. is shown in the background. It was built in 1982. During its construction, a severe storm toppled a crane being used to build it. Fortunately, the crane fell directly down the length of the street it was sitting on. No one was hurt and no damage was done. The National City Tower (not shown) was built in the 70's. It's claim to fame came shortly after completion. Due to shoddy work on the windows, panes of glass would spontaniously break loose and come crashing down to the street below. All the windows were replaced. This is all from memory, so I hope I remembered correctly.

Virgin 340, having lived near LA a few years back (Pasadena, Encino), and I can't say I disagree one bit about 1st Interstate. However I don't much care for the Sears tower either, looks a bit like some sort of ultra-large set of Duplo blocks.

Cheers

wn700driver; I'm beginning to agree with you. The Sears do look like a set of duplo blcks. Like I said I'm a big fan of buildigs that were built in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. ie Woolwort, Metlife Tower and Empire State. Hey they may not be the tallest but look at all that great arcitecture. The granite and marble lobbies. Those things are very rare in today's glass and steel monstrosities.

Sears Tower was designed so it wouldn't need any zoning variances from the city, something to do with the height to square footage ratio or something like that. They weren't free to build whatever they wanted.

Also, CSTARU posted this in a similar thread a few months ago and it pretty much speaks for itself:

There's a similar side by side comparison on the wall in the waiting area to go up to the top of the Sears Tower if you ever go there.
