KROC: Actually back in India now the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty and its bent towards socialism is often lampooned in the press nowadays, since the new freemarket reforms have completely transformed the economy and country from the pre-1990s centrally (mis)managed market days.

This pisses me off. And they said Indians were pro-U.S. Hey Indian guy, i think its time for you to go ahead and take your yearly bath in your sacred river, you dirty bastard.

The venerable (cough cough) Times of India often states the quasi-progressive leftist 'intellectual' point of view, somewhat similar to how CNN sheds so many tears over the collateral damage in Afghanistan. Granted it deserves to be reported, but when brushes off the 9/11 acts it crosses the line.

These guys aren't anti-US, but ridicule the fact that the US has taken Pakistan (which promotes cross-border terrorism against India) on as an ally. They may have a point, but this sort of satire is in bad taste. Unfortunately, thats how the ToI, The Hindu and other left-leaning papers are.

How typical is this?

The same people who were laughing and joking about bombing Afghanistan, and laughing at funny little Osama bin Laden "jokes" have come out in force to "hmmmmph" and "scoff" and "scorn" for humour which has been posted which is taking the piss out of the Americans.

You laugh easily when it is against bin Laden, yet you can't laugh at this?

Just like the photos of the B-52s dropping bombs, with the heading "United Airlines and American Airlines announce new non-stop service to Afghanistan". Plenty of laughs there.....but could you laugh at "United and American Airlines have announced a new service....they now fly you directly to your office". No....didn't think so  Insane

Personally, I thought Dubyaman is pretty funny!!

HEY EVERYBODY, This Is Just A Joke!!!
You all think this is anti-American propaganda? I'm sure if something like this was printed in an American newspaper, you would all have a nice laugh about it, but because it is Indian, it is automatically anti-American hate propaganda. All countries need to have the ability to laugh at themselves once in a while, so maybe you people who are insulting Indians with racist and offensive comments should think about that. Also, even if you did not like the comics, was there any need to make demeaning comments about Indians and Hindus?

Actually, that picture was met with much hostility when it was first posted. But I agree, lighten up people! And if you don't like this sort of thing, you don't have to read it. I'm sure this wasn't supposed to be anti-American or demeaning to any particular country or people; it was just a bit of humor. Hey, I thought it was funny!

Chill, gang, it's political parody. Some of it relies upon false premises for its humor, and much is in bad taste in current context, but what're you gonna do, try to silence everyone with whom you do not agree?

As some of the posts above note, there are political repercussions for any decision made, and that must (of necessity) include the courting of Pakistan, with which India has been engaged in conflict for some time. That, alone, would be expected to generate significant backlash in India.

There are no easy paths here, gang.

pre Sept 11: SNL's portrayal of Bush as an illiterate idiot, The Daily Show's constant ridicule of the Bush Administration, Bush himself pissing off millions of Europeans on his visit there, etc. The events of Sept 11 do not automatically reverse Bush's own ineptitude. Now we're in a war we can't "win", fighting an enemy we can't find and pissing of millions of Arabs and Muslims to boot. As tasteless as some of the satire is, I still feel Bush is a moron. And I don't feel I'm being unpatriotic by saying so. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!

"pre Sept 11: SNL's portrayal of Bush as an illiterate idiot, The Daily Show's constant ridicule of the Bush Administration... The events of Sept 11 do not automatically reverse Bush's own ineptitude"

Nor do the childish barbs of biased entertainers constitute evidence of ineptitude.

Every politician has their weak points; President Bush's greatest weakness is his generally-poor public speaking style (though he's made some remarkable strides there, as well). Despite the barbs thrown at him (as noted above), there has been little of substance to legitimize those insults.

Notwithstanding the relentless march toward pop culture defining society, I'll continue to try to judge the President based upon what he does and does not do, not upon what comedy writers, satirists, cartoonists and political opponents tell us we should think.
