Hey, I just finished adding some cool stuff to my desktop this afternoon, you just gave me a thread to brag in! Big thumbs up It's a Gateway and here's how she looks:

19" monitor, P4 1.7Ghz, ATI Radeon AGP4x graphics card with 64MB of DDR memory w/ video capture & TV out, 256MB RAM, High Speed (A LOT more important than capacity...) 20GB Western Digital Hard Drive, new DVD & CD-RW drives (separate), a 250MB Zip Drive, and I even picked up one of them fancy mice that use the laser instead of the ball. I didn't need the new mouse, but for $20 it looks damn cool. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

PS: During all this I managed to screw up the cable modem, if anyone has an idea what could be wrong that would be great. I have a feeling it might not like the new motherboard or something... a friend on mine let me borrow his and it works great so who knows. Smile

I like to fly: Sounds great!  Big thumbs up I can't wait to get hold of my new rig, should arrive any day now i hope. I'm also getting a 19" screen (hope to see a big difference against my 14" i have now). I had to choose from a 15" flatscreen TFT or a regular 19" and i went for the 19 mainly cuz TFT's aren't any good to play games and view video on and it was a bit more expensive too.

Mika, good choice on the monitor. The flat screens are neat and do fit in small spaces better but for games and other graphic intensive stuff you will like the standard type. Also, you will see a big difference with the 19" against the 14"... you will get used to it really fast and it will be hard to use a smaller one. The old desktop I still use has a 13.9" and it seems so small now, but before when that's all I had I would have never known. If you have any extra $$$ around the best investment I have found for computers if you are into games is a new graphics card. I don't know what your new system has, but if it is not name brand or is less than 32MB get a new one. You want one with a name brand core that is specifically designed for 3D rendering... a cheap one with a lot of memory is worthless and I see that a lot in stores with "budget" systems. I messed around with this playing MS Flight Simulator 2002 w/ everything on and Madden 2002 w/ all options on with the factory 16MB TNT card and then the ATI Radeon I mentioned and it is unbelievable. Frame Rates go up a lot, but with a P4 that's not a problem... but the shadows, reflections, and "skinning" look incredible and are smooth as can be. $200 bucks is sure worth it, if you love 3D games get yourself one. Big thumbs up Hope you have some fun with your new system. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

PS: Be sure to get DDR memory with that card.... when it is supporting a Pentium 4 you need the fast memory or you won't speed it up any. Big thumbs up

Newly put together Athlon XP1900+, Asus A7V266-E, 512MB Crutial DDR, ASUS v8200 TI500 Deleux w/VIVO, Western Digital 80Gb 7200rpm. And the Sony G400 is giving me some trouble in WinXP Pro. For some reason, it doesn't want to stay at 1600x1200.

I won't look into P4 until Northwood comes out (approx Jan.) cause Athlon XP is kicking sh*t out of current P4WAs. A 1.6Ghz Athlon will beat P4 2.0 in everything except memory benchmarks. Hope that will change with NW.

I like to fly: I'm getting a 64MB Geforce 3 with the computer. Don't know what brand or memmory type though. hope it's DDR (maybe all GF3's has DDR?)

It's good to see AMD and intel buffs living in harmony in this forum  Big thumbs up If you go look at computer hardware boards, AMD and intel people are scratching eachothers eyes out!
