What Brand Of Gas Do You Use?

Fri Nov 23, 2001 10:55 am

As a dispatcher for one of the large oil companies, I am just curious as to what brand of gasoline you use in your vehicle and why you are loyal to that brand. I'll refrain from saying what company I work for, lest I appear biased-but it IS one of the ones mentioned below:

Here are some big brands:

BP/Amoco/Arco
Tosco (Unocal/Phillips 66)
Equilon (Texaco/Shell)
Sunoco
Citgo

Ultramar
Exxon/Mobil

I use a liquid kind. I get it at a wholesale store called BJ's. Its like Sam's Club. They sell gas too, and its usually like 10 cents cheaper a gallon there.

Just to let everyone know that realy is the stores name... just so no-one thinks KROC is using "evil" words.

I am about 2 miles from my Local *j's wholesale club. Corner of Milestrip RD and McKinley Parkway here in Beautiful downtown Blasdell NY.

They are one and the same.

Gas (or fuel) is in the US.

And I understand it's called Petrol everywhere else.

My question was aimed at US users but anyone is free to add to the discussion.

Esso or Sunoco. Esso is the good but there is a Sunoco real close to my house. Esso is the best place to get it washed because they have one of those touch free doohickeys.

I used to get QuikTrip all the time but the ones in Iowa City got taken over by Kum & Go (no joke, it's actually called that!). QuikTrip wants to focus on larger markets like DSM, KC, etc. No I get gas branded as Phillips 66 at a chain called Handimart.

I used to go to Exxon/Mobil all the time because I had an Exxon credit card that my parents paid for. I don't have that anymore, so I usually go to whatever is most convenient, which is usually Exxon, Mobil or Shell.

Cherokee Exxon is most convinent as far as location goes, but their prices are like 6 cents above anyone along Route 70 (I live in New Jersey, remember!). I go to the Amoco on Route 70 for my gas. My dad always goes there and they have very reasonable prices (I think we're below $1/gal now!!! Yeay!!!).

I mean, how much thought does that take? When I was in California, I dont remember it being fashionable to pay the most expensive price for gas just because you have the money. Maybe its changed since 1998.

Depends On What Side Of The Street You Were On

Fri Nov 23, 2001 12:41 pm

When I used to work at Alamo Rent-a-car I would often stop on my way home or to school at the Texaco on the corner... why, b/c it was on the same side of the street as I was headed. I got a lot of gas at that Texaco. I gased up at a Chevron that was on my way to the freeway yesterday. There is no rhyme or reason... I don't go out of my way to find cheap gas, a nickle's difference a gallon is not incredibly much. If one place is $1.25 and another is $1.39 I will go to the $1.25 place. But then they could be pumping the same brand of gas.

The Chervon were I got gas had regular unleaded @ $1.19, two miles down the road another Chevron had it at $1.24. Go figure

no brand loyalty for me! whichever is cheaper.

brands mean shit anyway. Like Texaco in the US is not even Texaco! It's Shell and Saudi Aramco.

so it does not matter.

Just out of interest, what do Americans call 'gas' (Proper English spelling) seeing as you use that word to describe petrol. Believe it or not this question has often puzzled me and I think this is a great opportunity to finally get the answer I am seeking  Smile

Ryan, first of all gas is sort for gaseoline, so maybe that helps.

And by gas I assume you are talking about CNG or propane. Which we usually refer to it by specific name, or by context. Your home gas bill is for natural gas not the gas from the pump.

Hope that satisfies your curiousity.

well I have been pumping my own gas since April so I usually go to this place near to where I work and where I live called 'Speedway', but sometimes I go to Tesoro and one time I went to a 76 station because I was running out of gas and it was the closest.

It's very confusing these days.

All US Shell and Texaco stations are owned or affiliated by two companies called Equilon and Motiva. Equilon is Shell and Texaco in the western reaches of the country and Motiva is Shell and Texaco in the east.

Equilon and Motiva themselves are owned by Saudi Aramco and Shell Oil, with have nothing to do with the new ChevronTexaco. ChevronTexaco gas stations in the US are branded as Chevron.

In a few years, ChevronTexaco will be able to again use the Texaco brand in the US, but not now.

All Amoco stations in the US are affiliated with BP in UK and will shortly be rebranded as BP Connect stations, removing the Amoco brand from retail gasoline from the US.

Shell itself is very confusing not really being one company but rather two: Shell Transport Limited from the UK and Shell Oil Comapny from the Netherlands.

Also Sunoco gas stations in Canada have no relation to Sunoco gas stations in the USA, two different companies with two different logos.

ExxonMobil owns the Exxon, Mobil, ESSO, and a few other worldwide gas station brands.

Mostly Caltex, because the nearest service station to me happens to be a Caltex outlet. However, If I am running short on gas somewhere other than home I have no preference. I will fill up at Shell, BP, Total or Engen. It makes prescious little difference at the end of the day - the fuel all comes from the Caltex oil refinery anyway.

Where I live, I use ARCO for my regular fillups and once a month I use Chevron (that's because Chevron gasoline has the Techron additive to keep my car's fuel injectors clean  Smile ).

Shell because I get a discounted car wash everytime I go there.

When I go to Georgia, I fill up at Race Track. 97cents a gallon is a real steal.
