Most Polite Cuuntry

Wed Nov 28, 2001 8:43 am

Many people have traveled here to many different countrys. What country has the most polite, happy, and kind people (generally of course) in your travels.

Ireland has a genuine kind and polite spirt to them.

My World Cultures teacher spent two years in Syria and he said there was only two murders in the entire country during his stay. I don't know if I would use polite here but I would say one of the safest is Syria.

At least in my experience it is the oppositte, Quececois are much nicer and more polite than the rest of Canada...and have a much better sense of humour.

Japanese are polite on the surface but can be very unfair to foreigners, an example being my cousin having an extremely difficult time to find an apartment near Tokyo because the landlords didn't trust her.

The Japanese are almost fanatical about politeness. They speak practically an entirely different language based on the level of politeness they wish to project and the status of whoever they're speaking to. They're also just ridiculously nice - I think this is actually something separate from politeness but they're both.

Canadians aren't really polite, everybody just fakes the politeness towords strangers. MOST are actualy very rude, disrespectfull, nosy, dislike people of other nationalites, greedy, narrow-minded and love to rat on others....from my observations anyway. There are of course good people as well, but they are a minority.

Exactly G Dubya! Come to Rocehster, and I'll be sure to show you a very nice time, lol. Unless you're We're Nuts...  Big grin

Anyway, I think the most polite country all depends on the people you encounter in said country. I spent 13 months in Korea, and I met some wonderful people, and I met some real A-holes. I'm sure the same formula applies to most every country.

Well i have not been there myself yet but from what i can make out on my outlook of the world and listening to peoples first hand experiences:
JAPAN (japanese people) are really polite people. My cousin was on a biz trip earlier and he was telling me that they go out of their way to help and be polite.
I must say Americans(general public) are'nt bad either.....they would rate second on my list.

Australia and New Zealand are by far the most polite pleasant countries I've been to. And there's NO tipping in restaurants whatsover(unlike in the USA) and the service staff are, in my opinion, more polite than those in the USA.

I was extremely enthusiasts when I met Danish people for the first time.
I spent much time up there, and I must say it's the place where I had most fun in my life. People just like to chat with foreigners, and the girls are not as proud as in France, that's really nice.
I would say Denmark !!

I remember when I passed the Police gate at the Kobenhavn airport, the police woman was quite serious. When she saw my ID with FRANCE written on it, she had a big smile, and said a big : "Welcome in Denmark !!". Very nice. It was the most polite cuntry.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

People are mostly the same wherever you go. They're proud of their country and like having visitors. Lebanon might be a country better known for chaining visitors to radiators in basements, but I had a wonderful time there in August, if there is only one English word a Lebanese knows, it's "welcome". Australia and the US are probably slightly ahead of the pack but I'm not surprised Botswana, Argentina, Canada, wherever, are mentioned - people are nice, period.

Oh yeah, with one exception. France.

You're right, Cedarjet. French are widely known as cocksuckers, they're only a bunch of cowards. I heard in this forum "Surrender Monkeys".
I like to see people's prejudices. That's funny when you hear those Americans screaming that I am anti-American because I don't agree with 100% of the US politics.

No, I called you anti-American because you made uninformed satements such as: "America is a good democracy if you are white and right-wing."

Guess what, I don't agree with many US policies. Yet I love this nation. Maybe you should consider learning something about America before you bash it.

BTW, I think that anti-French outbursts are just as bad as your anti-Americanism, Sebolino. I condemn both.

No, I just wanted to remind you that I didn't call you anti-American because you didn't agree with US policies, but because of specific statements that were clearly anti-American.

I don't know who's the most polite, but I did receive a letter from a Japanese, asking permission to use some of my work. I have to say, I've never read such polite language in my life. It sounded like someone from the baroque era addressing the king. It was so stylized and elaborate, and I saw words I hadn't seen in years, "your disdain", "beseech", "and if I should take advantage of your kindness", "if you would condescend to answer me in spite of your being so busy", etc.....

I asked a Japanese friend of mine about this, and he said (as someone else did earlier), that they have different languages for talking to strangers, nobility, women, etc., and what I read was simply the way any decent Japanese would right a petition to a stranger.
