The Ultimate Hot Hatch

Tue Dec 25, 2001 5:55 am

Heres a topic for the whole world (Especially Europe). What do you think todays ultimate hatchback is? I have to go with the Golf, with the 4motion already out, and the even more powerful RSI coming out, combined with excellent build quality, and engineering. Some others I can think of are the Clio 172Sport, the 206Gti, Civic Type-R, Saxo, and Focus. Any others you can think of, please include.

Alfa 147

the Golf is an excellent hatch, but it lacks something in the styling department. It's........ bland. It's functional, but the styling does not excite.

The Alfa 147 on the other hand has style. I'd like one.

Hmmm... that Alfa is something else, I think its styling is a little bit out of date if you ask me. Yes the Golf/GTI is bland, but it is still a fun little car (4Motion is available for it in Europe???). The next A3 should be coming to the US and it looks pretty interesting.

If you guys can get your hands on it, check out the Jan 2002 issue of Automobile magazine... they do a little test of hot rod imports. They tested the GTI 1.8T, Focus SVT (very nice btw), the new Civic Si hatch, Sentra SE-R V-Spec, and the Mazda Protege MP3.

Unfortunately in the US hatchbacks are not too popular, but they seem to be making a comeback.

Starship, you beat me to it!

The 147 looks really great, has its own style and with the 2.0 T.Spark I'm sure it moves too!  Big thumbs up
