No Topic, But Try This Out!

Thu Feb 21, 2002 8:39 pm

I'm not sure if it works, but it seemed to have worked around my school...

Read this out aloud, then answer the questions spontaneously below:

6 (six)
66 (sixty six)
666 (six hundred and sixty six and so on)
6666
66666
666666
6666666
66666666

1)Name a colour;
2)Name a tool;
3)Name a vegetable;

Even though English is not my mother tongue, I had:
Red , hammer, banana  Smile

I know a similar one in Greek (say 7 times 7 , 49 repeatdely) , that almost everybody turns out to answer :red (in Greek).

I have heard that by concentrating on these numbers, the brain "gets tuned" or something like that, and the reactive answer to a question (mainly with color) tends to give a certain answer.

Try this one : (it works mainly with non english speaking people):

I said red, garden spade, cabbage...

But then again, I stopped reading the numbers about halfway through, so that may explain why it didn't work for me.  Smile

Seriously, it's possible that people will always say "red/blue, hammer, carrot," regardless of the numbers experiment. After all, red and blue are primary colors, the hammer is a common tool, and the carrot is certainly a very distictive vegetable. Someone should do test of this theory...

I've seen the "finished files" ones tons of time. But whats with the crap about "brain cannot process 'of ' " of course it can. It's just that "of" a small preposition, and it's easily ignored.

yellow ratchet potato

reminds me of one a freshman tried on me the other day. he said "think of a vegetable" and write it on a piece of paper he gave me. i thought potato, and the paper already had carrot written on it. What's with carrots being most associated with the word vegetable?

I don't understand the point of reading the numbers out loud. Does that really change anything? Anyway, red, hammer, broccoli.
