BMW 7-series V12 Engine

Thu Feb 28, 2002 3:04 am

Does anyone know when the new BMW 7-series will come with the V12 engine?
The last 7-series with that engine was named 750, will that also be the name for the new car?

So u like the design of the new 7 series huh? I personally think it looks too cheap to be a BMW 7 series. I'd rather buy a CL or S Class Mercedes. Just my personal oppinion though.  Smile

The new one is the 760iL with a new V12.

While I love BMW's in general, I can't seem to warm up to the Buick Rendesvous headlights and the Chrysler Cirrus tail lights. BMW's have always been good looking cars, but where is BMW going with this one??? And will the new 5 series coming later this year look that bad too????

Have you all actually seen this car in person? It is drop dead beautiful! I don't see how anyone couldn't like it.

I have seen the car at the Detroit Auto Show, and at dealerships here in Toronto. It doesn't impress me at all! The old 7 is much nicer to look at! However, the interior is for the most part very impressive. I haven't sat in more comfortable seats, and I believe the material quality is tops out of anything I've sat in, including Jags and the new SL.

But speaking of the new SL, oh my, what a beautiful car!!! Mercedes has one hell of a winner with that car!!!

I agree with Mika. The new Seven looks like a five year old Lexus copulated with a two year old Audi.

Oh well. Every day that passes brings the used, old Seven designs closer to my price range  Wink/being sarcastic

When I first saw the pictures, I thought it looked terrible, and thought the rear tailights looked like Chrysler Cirrus tail lights!!! Now that I've seen it in person, and been in it, I totally disagree. The car is AWESOME!

These are top end luxury cars, no Honda Civics. They are supposed to be big. I myself wouldn't pay $80.000-$100.000 for a civic sized car!

I would (if I had the money) pay $80k-$100k for a Civic sized car, if it stood 500 SL or Z8 on the trunk...

The exterior styling of the new BMW 740i isn't that bad.

But the interior design--especially the extremely radical dashboard with the iDrive system--may end up turning off too many luxury automobile drivers. The problem is that iDrive is too radical a change for drivers used to the ergonomics of a Mercedes-Benz or Lexus.

RayChuang,

No such thing as a New 740i. The new 7 series is the 745i, and soon the 760Li!

Ohh come on everyone.....the new 7 series is amazing....very unique and advanced car. I was a bit unsure about the car when all i had seen were pictures, but when i did see it in real....i thought it was one sexy car. I have not driven it yet but i am sure its a great drive like most BMW's..... im myself a die hard Mercedes fan but you gotta give it to BMW..the new 7 is one very unique and cool car.

I agree with you. When you see the car on the pictures it doesn't look that good. In some pics. it actually looks a bit ugly, but in real...WOW!!!

I had my BMW serviced last week and took a good look at the car. It's amazing. And it does look better in person than in the photos. I will reserve comment on the tail lights, however.

My salesman, who is also a friend, mentioned that they can not even keep up with the demand...mostly 740i drivers trading in. But he mentioned they will have almost as many used 430's and 500's as the Mercedes dealer next door. So, they must be doing something right (?).

Interesting annotation: most sought after combination is black/black, then silver/black. Least popular is white/tan. Nearly 100% of buyers are men.

My buddies dad has a two year old 740iL.....ummmm not a bad ride.....But I would rather spend a little less money and go for the Lincoln LS V8 premium package....guess you can tell i work at a ford dealership in the winter....but such a nice ride for the buck....oh did i mention that I am driving a V6 LS....Captiangomes can testify!!!

As I first saw this car, I thought `Why do they do something like this?´ I really liked the old BMW. But now this!

After some weeks I saw again a picture, and it looked better. And finally I saw it a few days ago in Munich at the airport and it looks great!!

I think you just need some time!!
yes i can handle that alone. - - -famous last words
