Anyone Using Windows 2000 Pro. At Home?

Tue Mar 19, 2002 9:14 am

I just installed it on all of the workstations at work and I'm completely impressed. Is anyone using it at home? If so, have you found any limitations?

I've been using it for a while now, and trust me, I've put it through a battery of tests with all my different cards and heavy software. I've found a few bugs, but nothing a normal user would ever encounter. I like it much better than 2000.

How could you think 2000 is better than 2000?

I use it. I can't stand that Fisher Price looking XP so I'm going to stick with 2000 also  Big thumbs up

I can dual boot my computer with either Windows 2000 or Windows 98. I kept 98 for all my games but use Windows 2000 for everything else. Windows2K is far better than 95/98/ME and XP just looks stupid. Unless something far better appears, I'm sticking with Windows2k.

B757300, I was hoping to use 2000 with FS2002. It would be nice to have on OS that can use this half meg of RAM that I have.

I'm running Win2k, and I think it's very stable. I've had the computer on for a month straight with no problems.

The only limitation I can find is that it doesn't handle burning CDs as well as DOS based Windows. For example, I was running WinME (which sucks ass), and I could burn at 12x with half a dozen programs running, no sweat. But with Win2k, I have to step it down to 8x and not run any other programs, or else it runs very slow and it might restart without warning. And I have 256 MB of RAM, so memory isn't the problem. One of my friends is also running Win2k, and he had a bunch of programs running while burning and he got the Blue Screen of Death, I never had that problem.

I've been having problems with burning CDs while running Win2k. I just got fed up and installed the burner on my second comp.

I'm sure FS2002 will work with Windows2k. Most new games do. Its the older ones that sometimes will mess up. I only have one game on Windows 2000 (Medal of Honor, Allied Assault) and it runs just fine. I'd keep it on Win98 but it is conflicting with something.
