To ensure we Americans never offend anyone-particularly fanatics intent on killing us-airport screeners are not allowed to profile people. They will, however, continue to perform random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President's security detail, and 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips.

We applaud, because the people that are getting profiled in this case, are people behind ever tragedy listed originally. Perhaps instead of being mad at those that profile you, you ahould be mad, at those that have made the need for profiling needed.

No question it is important to maintain high standards of security at airports - but profiling people because of their skin colour and who they happen to be is simply not the answer.

Radarbeam, you make a point, but to this topic, it is irrelevant. Nobody deny's that the examoles you have given are wrong, but this topic is about profiling Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40 . See, the examples you have given, were those of citizens of the country they attacked. Hard to profile that, but they are not taking there terrorism and extremism and using it to attack other countrys. It doesn't make it right, but again, your examples have to point to the profiling of Muslims. There is a reason why Americans are not profiled overseas....because we do not support nor spread terrorism.

Profiling based solely on race is not "profiling" at all -- a profile, by definition, must consist of more than one element. But random searches are clearly ridiculous, since the odds of finding a terrorist at random is virtually nil.
However, there is nothing wrong with profiling based on factors such as the manner of ticket purchase, behavior at the airport, nature of baggage carried, and appearance -- including race.
Recently, after being selected for a gate search, I boarded the aircraft and a fellow passenger, who saw me get picked, asked if I don't feel better now about the security. I said no, just the opposite --- by picking me, they missed an opportunity to possibly apprehend a real terrorist, because I know I am not a threat!

I have been a frequent flyer for 20 years and currently gold medallion on DL. How great a risk can I be? Same employer for 23 years. Same address for 9 years, same city of residence for 21 years. This is all in my profile. So it would be reasonable to pass me by as a possible risk, is it not? This data is not hard to find - dozens of advertisers have it (as evidenced by the junk mail they send me). So, how hard would it be to use profiling to rule out risks, as well as to identify them?
I agree that everyone should be screened once, as they do now, but with improved equipment. But subsequent inspections should be based on profiling, as I mentioned in my previous post, and not at random.

I have been a frequent flyer for 20 years and currently gold medallion on DL. How great a risk can I be? Same employer for 23 years. Same address for 9 years, same city of residence for 21 years. This is all in my profile. So it would be reasonable to pass me by as a possible risk, is it not? This data is not hard to find - dozens of advertisers have it (as evidenced by the junk mail they send me). So, how hard would it be to use profiling to rule out risks, as well as to identify them?
I agree that everyone should be screened once, as they do now, but with improved equipment. But subsequent inspections should be based on profiling, as I mentioned in my previous post, and not at random.

All your criteria for why you should not be searched is a joke. You act like the airline knows that. You see, we still have privacy to some sort of degree in America. If you want to be left alone in the airport, then sign away the rest of your privacy. Aothorize the airline, and the government running the security at the airports to know everything about you, right on down to how many times you wipe your ass. Profiling is one thing, but that does not mean that the only people capable of blowing up an airplane are muslim fanaticals 17-40 with dark skin. Someone just like you is just as capable of an act of terrorism. It's people like you, and your crying, that will do nothing but hinder security efforts at airports across the country. Sniff-Sniff, I'm a gold member, sniff-sniff, I fly all the time, sniff-sniff, I'm an upstanding citizen. Get over it. This is the world we live in, and the fact that terror from anyone is a dangerous threat means we all will be profiled at some point.

"Krok", HAHAHA Delta flyer. Clever as always. You see, we were having a civilized discussion. See, you are debating one side, and I happen to be on the other. You see, in your case, you want your cake, and you want to eat it too. You want to feel safe and confortable every time you step onto an airplane, YET you don't want to have to deal with the neccessary precautions that need to be taken to ensure such security. Instead of calling me a *gasp* "real jerk", why don't you take my points that are VALID, and try and refute them? You can post all the angrly smilies you want, and you can cry about what a "real jerk" I am, but until you have something that can make all people being checked in airports not needed any longer, you can't complain because they stop you. You can't complain they don't know you fly 40,000 miles every week, lived at the same addy for 200 years, or never had an altercation with a police officer that wasn't friendly. Human's are not mind readers. In todays world you can either have no dealings with security at the airport, and risk being flown into a building, the ground ect, or you can sack up, and deal with it, and relax knowing that security is putting forth a good effort in enusring every time you fly, it is as safe as possible.

Recently, after being selected for a gate search, I boarded the aircraft and a fellow passenger, who saw me get picked, asked if I don't feel better now about the security. I said no, just the opposite --- by picking me, they missed an opportunity to possibly apprehend a real terrorist, because I know I am not a threat!
And I have to conceed this point to those who don't like the profiling, but does anyone here think had they just looked at Tim McVeigh, a clean-cut, Midwestern white boy, that they would have seen a terrorist in him? Not at all. While the large proportion of terrorism HAS occurred at the hands of Muslim males between 17-40, not ALL come in that form.

I did hear that some of these scum who pulled off the hijacking on 9-11 were frequent flyers on UA and AA.
And what does that prove? Nothing, except you fly a lot, that's all.

Like I said before....profile me please. Who cares...I'm not a terrorist nor am I hiding something so profile me. Once last year while flying nonrev on United, the agent even went through my wallet while doing a security check. I don't have a problem with it, because I AM NOT a terrorist or hiding anything. So IMO profiling is a necessity in today's society.
