Favorites:

Montreal - My home town, I was supposed to be going to college there but I got a better offer from Boston. It's a beautiful city with a disgusting airport!

Singapore - Just out of curiosity how can you not like it? It' beautiful, clean, organized, unique and a mix of both modern and chinese cultures!

NYC - The name says it all...it's a great city with lots to do.

Paris - I seriously want to live there. I love the french language, the city, the way people dress(very presentable), the FOOD,etc...

Venice - This city is beautiful, but I wouldn't want to live there! It's almost surreal...

Spain - the reason why I wrote Spain is because the whole country is great. I personally wouldn't mind living in either Madrid or Barcelona or Marbella (peurto Banus area).

I don't thing at all that Singapore is clean, well, compared to other cities as Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur etc. it is not cleaner as others. You should go to KL once and you don't want to go back to Singapore anymore  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Gabriel,

I understand what you mean but places like Palau, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu etc... sound like interesting and beautiful places even though it's only turquoise beaches and white sands.

I want to visit Baghdad as well. Iraq is where life started, if you believe in God that is, so it rather an interesting place. It's a very cultural place.

Actually when I went through Gary, I did stop, and I bought a 40 oz. Just like I did in Watts. What can I say, I like to get a reaction, and Gary did not let me down. Just like in Watts, I just played everything off and was non-chalant (sp). Actually (by choice) stayed for an hour or so before hitting the road again.

Cities I liked ...

Toronto
Montreal
Calgary
Vancouver
Halifax ... ok, yes I am Canadian, and liked all those cities  Smile
Lisbon
Faro
Madrid
Malaga
Berlin
Birmingham
New York
Boston
Myrtle Beach

Cities I didn't like as much:
Detroit
Buffalo
Manchester
Frankfurt
Edmonton

Mind you, eventhough I "didn't like" these cities as much, doesn't mean I hate them. I love going to Detroit because it's definitely interesting, but I can't say I like the city. I would never want to live there! Frankfurt is a very wealthy and clean city, but it's too much of a banking and business city for me. It seems to revolve around money and nothing else. Very little life there, as opposed to Berlin.

Here we go:

Cities I liked:
*New York City (Home sweet home. I love all of the metropolitan area, even Jersey!)
*Chicago (ORD!)
*Los Angeles (Yeah, problems aside, LAX is simply awesome and LA is quite a beautiful and diverse city)
*London (Very similar to New York in many ways, and of course, there’s always LHR. Best city in Europe. Too bad it’s too expensive. I would love to live there for a few years)
*Boston (I like it -- clean, great architecture, very cultural)
*Montreal (Best city in Canada. Very cultural and a great night life. Too bad about the politics)
*Hong Kong (BY FAR the most beautiful city in the world! I totally fell in love with it when I was down there and would love to live there for one or two years – anyone hiring?)
*San Diego
*Calgary (Nice, clean, affordable city that’s really close to the Rockies)
*Milan
*Amsterdam (Love the Dutch – very friendly, fair, tolerant and open-minded)
*Munch
*Frankfurt (Some people don’t like it, I loved it! It’s a great party city. FRA is a destination in itself)
*Miami (The city itself is kinda sleazy, but you can’t beat the weather!)
*Salt Lake City
*Athens
*Seattle (Beautiful city)
*Vancouver (Beautiful city too – very similar to Seattle)
*Stockholm (Except for the winters!)
*Paris (yes and no. It’s a beautiful city, and I love CDG, but it didn’t leave the impression of, say, London or Hong Kong)
*Austin (My favorite city in Texas)
*San Antonio
*Rome
*Bath in England

Cities I want to visit:
*Las Vegas
*San Francisco
*Seoul (I might go this summer)
*Tokyo
*Shanghai
*Beijing (My friend lives in HK, but goes to Beijing often for business. He says it’s one of the three worst cities in Asia -- Manila and Jakarta being the other two – I want to see it for myself)
*Baghdad (Lots of history there)
*Cairo
*Cape Town
*Johannesburg
*Nairobi
*Damascus
*Amman
*Alexandria, Egypt
*Budapest
*Prague
*Moscow
*Rio de Janeiro
*Sao Paulo
*Buenos Aires
*Santiago
*Mexico City
*Taipei
*Sydney
*Perth
*Tehran (I love Iranian women!  Big thumbs up)
*Mumbai
*Delhi
*Berlin
*Singapore
*Kuala Lumpur
*Bangkok
*Sapporo
*Jakarta (See Beijing)
*Manila (See Beijing)
*Caracas
*Bogotá
*Douala , Cameroon (have friends there)
*Auckland
*Brisbane
*Dubai

Cities I have been to and don’t like:
*Zurich (I just didn’t like it. Kinda sterile)
*Houston (All the bad things of L.A. and nothing good. And the smog is outrageous!)
*Dallas (DFW is cool though)
*Atlanta (OK, aside from ATL, this city sucks! I don’t get why so many people move there)
*Washington, D.C.
*Brussels (I didn’t like the people)
*Phoenix (Too many old people)
*Winnipeg (Absolutely dead city)
*Baltimore
*Orlando (Trailer park trash reside here)
*Toronto (Used to live there. I don’t hate it, but it’s nothing special)
*St. Louis
*Detroit
*Venice (I thought it was filthy. It’s good to see it once though)

Well,

Singapore - Eh, I just liked the atmosphere in the district we were staying at.

Sydney - Kickass city, Downtown is just awesome. Try watching the sunset from the botannical gardens looking towards the Opera house and harbour bridge.

London - I've only been twice to stay, which is surprising, but loved it both times. It has that really cool atmosphere you don't get very often, and LHR is just cool, so cosmopolitan, busy (like the city), so many cultures converging at once, amazing..

Athens - Cool place, I've only had a brief passing through but I liked the culture there.

---

9V-SVE - lol, Ayers Rock isn't a city, its just a rock!!! There are only 4 or 5 hotels there about 10 miles away Big grin

RE: Your Favorite Cities...

Fri Jun 14, 2002 5:25 am

My favorite cities are as followed (in no particular order):

Boston, MA. Aside from the mess known as The Big Dig, Boston's my kind of town. In my non-rev days I went to Boston about half a dozen times. If it wasn't so expensive to live there, I'd move there. The history, Boston Common (what a great place to just sit on a bench and read a book), the Aquarium, the bars, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Marketplace, and of course, the Sam Adams Brewery Tour  Smokin cool  Big thumbs up

Washington D.C. What can I say, you would have to spend a lot of time in D.C. to see everything in all of the museums, and I still have much exploring to do in D.C. The Mall is nice, but the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial is the quietest place in town, even with the jets out of DCA flying over.

New Orleans, LA. The town that last call forgot. If you're a hedonist, this is your kind of town. Bourbon Street is best during the day, less crowds, less noise (except for the bands playing to small crowds), but alas less nudity (if that's your bag!). Get blitzed on Bourbon Street, and lose whatever money you have left @ the Harrah's casino. NOLA is also a great food town as well, if you're a foodie, you be in heaven in most of the resturants.

I am a native Atlantan, and those that have said they disliked Atlanta, I don't blame you at all. I've lived here all my life, and am not impressed by the city at all. Where in cities like Boston, New Orleans, NYC, Washington D.C. they preserve historic buildings, in Atlanta, most of them get lost to progress. We are just in the last 25 years really gotten into historic preservation, sadly it was many years too late for some of the best historic buildings in town. Our traffic is as bad/or worse as in cities many times our size. After about 6 p.m., downtown becomes a ghost town, because not too many people actually live in the city, they just commute from the burbs. We host one of the most prestigious events in the world, the Olympics, and we mess those up. Atlanta is not a city fit to be called an international city.

Like them:
Vienna
London
Paris
Rome
Aix en Provence (France)
S.F.
NYC
Freiburg (Germany)
Barcelona
Amsterdam

So-so:
Berlin
Hamburg
Budapest
Vilnius
Athens
Munich

Dislike:
Dusseldorf - ugly
Frankfurt - boring. You only can kick those high-rise bank-buildings and check out what happens (nothing, btw).
Warszaw, Poland - most parts are ugly
Minsk, Belorussia - even more ugly
Oslo, Norway - comparatively boring
Glasgow - more or less ugly

Would like to see:
Rio
Venice
Firenze
L.A.
Lisbon

There are more but I don't wish to categorize them.

Being really ruthless, all-time favourites are Venice, Innsbruck, Lugano, Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, Sydney, Hobart, Perth, Hong Kong, Dubai. Not far behind are Florence (which I'd love to visit again, because I don't think I did it justice the first time), Edinburgh, and, believe it or not, Paris. I keep thinking I hate Bangkok, but seem to enjoy it nonetheless. Would love to visit Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the middle east, but the last one only when things calm down - if ever.
I try and avoid Colombo, Manila and Cebu - once for each was quite enough.
cheers

Being an Atlanta native..I must agree with the loss of historic monuments...it is indeed sad...the notable leftovers are the Fox Theatre , Stone Mountain , and the Margaret Mitchell House downtown...also some things in Underground Atlanta...but I would disagree that the city is bad...you just have to know where things are...Places like buckhead are great to go have a great night of clubbing , stone mountain or piedmont park are great for a downtown visit and quite lovely...even chastain park , one of the few park ampitheatres left where you can see truely famous bands. Sure our traffic is bad...but hey , so is LA and Houston's...The city has a beautiful skyline ...Oh! and I almost forgot the High Museum Of Art , which almost always has a great exhibit...(I think the current one is Edvard Munch's paintings)
Now , to the olympics thing, we did not botch the olympics...They went off smoothly except for the transportation delays...(yeah our city has problems with transit). Sure there was a lot of advertising , but we can blame that on the national government. In the Sydney games , which I will admit were the greatest games ever, the Aussie government funded almost all the money for the event. During the Atlanta Games , Private companies like Coke , Phillips , and some others , funded the games , and therefore the games seemed less full of pride...and more advertising oriented.../olympics rant off
So to close lol, Atlanta is really a diamond in the rough...if you know where to look for the sparkle , you will find a city full of beauty and things to do.=)

San Francisco (where I live).
A dynamic, cosmopolitan city with great food, good people. Low clouds streak across the sky at high speeds and you can hear Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, English, Spanish and Arabic on the same bus. Parades, marches, rallies on any given weekend.

I'd also like to visit Hong Kong. My dad's been there about eight times in the last 5 years, but I've not had the opportunity to come along yet.

Kansas City-live here and have for the past 10 years, alot of people overlook it, but I LOVE it here.
Sarasota, FL-Beautiful city, reminds me of the Bahamas somewhat.
Tampa, FL-Pretty, once again, just stay away from the ghettos.
Gunnison, Colorado-MY favorite spot in Colorado, a small town with beautiful scenery, and the trout fishing is awesome out there.
Colorado Springs-Beautiful city, has alot to do for a city it's size.
Los Angeles-I don't really know what it is that I liked about LA, there's just alot to do, and it's impressive.
San Diego-fun, just plain fun.

CITIES I'M OK WITH
Denver-Pretty nice city overall, but it lacks the rocky mountain feel of Colorado Springs.
Oklahoma City-my grandma lives there, so she is a pretty good tour guide when I go there and need somethin to do. Bricktown's really fun, especially during the German Festival, but other than that ya have to search a little bit for somethin to do. Cowboy Hall of Fame, & the Zoo were kinda neat, but not something I'd recommend to everyone I meet.
Springfield, Missouri-If ya know where to look you'll have fun. Of course most of it involves being a redneck, or someone perpetually infatuated with the variety of fishing lures Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World has.  Laugh out loud I like to fish, but not THAT much.

CITIES I DISLIKE:
Columbus, OH- I was a toddler last time I was there, but I was bored, very bored, and I can't remember anything that'd make me feel different now. Unless it involves a Kansas State vs. Ohio State football game (we all know who would win that do we not? GO CATS!).
Nevada, Missouri-uhhhhhhh no comment
Wichita, Kansas-my cousin and her husband live there, and his parents own a huge house out by the airport with lotsa cars, but that doesn't make up for the ghetto feeling I get down there. This place is bad, even the airport is boring. I sat there for three hours one day while dropping my cousin Katie off for her flight back to Atlanta, and well, lets just say that TWA DC-9 was about the only flight action...except for the NW Airlink CRJ.

CITY I WISH I COULD REMEMBER:
Atlanta, Georgia-I was born in Marietta, a suburb of Atlanta so if I could remember much about Atlanta I'd put it on my "Cities I like" list. But I was only 1 1/2 the last time I lived there. I'm proud to be an Atlanta native though, so I couldn't forget it on my list.
