Nascar Predictions For 2003

Mon Nov 18, 2002 8:57 am

Well, it's been a long season, but Nascar is finally over for this year and Tony Stewart is the champion. It's going to be a whole different weekend now that Nascar is done for the year.

Some of my favorite moments were when Johnny Benson got his first win, Spencer getting released from Chip Ganassi Racing, Michael Waltrip winning the Pepsi 400, Matt Kenseth winning not once, but 5 TIMES and finally my favorite, Kurt Busch winning 4 races this year!!

It's very sad to see Rusty Wallace's 16 year win streak come to end, but you know how the saying goes, all good things must end sometime.

Some 2003 predictors:
Dave Blaney will get his first win
Kurt Busch will be competing for the Nascar Winston Cup Championship
Finally, I believe Kenny Wallace in the #23 Stacker 2 car will be very competitive with maybe even a few wins

Any thoughts?

Watch out for Busch in 2003  Big thumbs up

I think Dave Blaney will run a strong season next year fresh off an experience-building season. Sad to see him wreck on lap 2, though. I think we'll see the usual contenders in the points hunt again next year (Gordon, Wallace, Martin).

With the added experience of a year in Winston Cup, Dodge power, and awesome racing talent, Ryan Newman will win the Winston Cup next year. Heck, if he hadn't have had 3 or 4 engine failures at the beginning of the year, I think we would have been talking about Ryan Newman as the first rookie champion right now.
The perennial frontrunners will be up there. Tony will give a fight, Sterling will be consistent again, and Kurt Busch will follow up his late year surge with a top 5 run in the championship standings next year. The main competition for Ryan will be Matt Kenseth, who will get as many, if not more, wins as he did this year. And this makes me happy, because I am a big fan of both.

Kenny Wallace will get his first win, but he'll have a year not unlike Ward Burton had this year, with spectacular runs followed by pitiful performances.

Drivers who will get their first win in 2003 include Jeff Green, Greg Biffle, and Jack Sprague.

Watch out for that 88!

Dale Jr. will DUMP Tony Eury. After a lackluster season of mediocre performace, mechanical problems distractions (too much Drakkar Noir, parties and other off track hubris etc) and health issues (concusion), DEJR will make some changes and that will include a crew cheif perhaps due to feuds (oil is thicker than blood) .

Dale Jarret will not race the ugly brown truck but will take the ugly brown and white Taurus to more victories...

Irony of the 2002 season-Joe Gibbs is supposedly moving to Chevy bodies for 2003, but Pontic brought home the trophy?????

Glad to see Pontiac get a championship! Tony'll be a contender next year, as will Gordon, Johnson, Newman, Busch, Martin, Marlin & maybe some surprises (McMurray?).

My favorite moments from this year include: Gordon ending the winless streak w/ the "Bump & Run" at Bristol, the Harvick/Biffle (almost) fight at Bristol in the BGN race, Jamie McMurray stunning the world with the win @ Charlotte, and Benson's first win.

Too bad about Rusty's streak ending- that was pretty cool how it lasted so long.

Predictions for 2003-
-Kenny Wallace, Greg Biffle, Jeff Green, Dave Blaney, Jack Sprague, and maybe some others will win for the first time.
-Busch will be in the top 3 in points.
-McMurray will be a contender....constantly
-Newman, Stewart, Busch, or Gordon will win the title.
-Greg Biffle will be Rookie of the Year, although I'm pulling for Sprague.

KROC seems to have never heard of Watkins Glen or Sears Point.

I also think that Kurt Busch will be a strong contender next year. But watch out for Mark Martin next year, I think he will come back with a stellar performance. (also, he gets extra points from me for flying a Cessna Citation to each race.) I was rooting for him all year, but no such luck.

GO #6!!!

A Pontiac in NASCAR?...or a tube-framed, Chevy-powered car that more-or-less looks like a Pontiac? I digress though. -- Prediction: This motorsport will become increasingly even more "sports" than "motor" oriented...with all the corporatization and celebrity worship that goes with it. The bean counters will have little to worry about however: For every gearhead/speed-freak that loses interest- They'll gain 2 or 3 yuppie fans.

First piont, somewhat true lol

second point--you bet!!! The sport is slowly loosing its appeal in the sense it is becoming too much like the WWE...too much hype..too much everything and please keep Brittney's navel out of the sport please--I wish she would confine herself to the back seat of Tony Stewart's car.

Road Courses defeat the purpose of a NASCAR race, and therefore by default don't count for the left turn only circuit. And considering I'm a NYer, I have heard of Watkins Glen.

"Countdown to Green" had a thing about Mark Martin & flying a couple weeks ago, even had a shot looking at him while flying. I like how some drivers mix my two favorite things together- flying & racing.

Speaking of Britney Spears... isn't she gonna do a NASCAR movie in the near future? I saw something like that on nascar.com & didn't like the idea (How the hell does Britney get tied into NASCAR??). She was also at Homestead on Sunday.

BTW-We'll miss you, RPM2Night!

Yes,

Tittney Rears is going to star in some sort of ego driven movie about NASCAR; God help us! And I though "Days of Thunder" was over the top!
Well like NKP S2, "Prediction: This motorsport will become increasingly even more "sports" than "motor" oriented...with all the corporatization and celebrity worship that goes with it. The bean counters will have little to worry about however: For every gearhead/speed-freak that loses interest- They'll gain 2 or 3 yuppie fans." He hit the nail on the head Baseball, Basketball have all gone down the 'bowl' in the big ego/money grab and NASCAR is well on it's way...
