I'm just about a purebred.....both sets of paternal great grandparents came straight off the boat. One set of maternal too...it was the fourth set that mixed some Scottish in the genes....a volitile combination!

Pity on this epic day of reckoning the world still has so much to learn from the wise and gentile nature of St. Patrick.

Best wishes for the day to those in the "Old Sod", and Irishmen (and those who wish they were!) everywhere!

Almost everyone I know claims to be to be irish, but only boasts it around St. Patrick Day. If you ask me, they are a bunch of front runners!  Angry

Not Irish at all, but I play in a Celtic punk band called "The Sisters of Murphy" here in ROC!

Well, with a last name of O'Malley, I know I've got some Irish in me. But since my paternal grandfather was an orphan, I don't know how much.

And FWIW, I know what you mean about everyone claiming to have Irish roots on St Patrick's day, on the South Side of Chicago it's even more prevelant.

I think it's sad though how we've corrupted this Saint's day in this country; in Ireland is it not more of a solemn occasion? Here it seems everyone uses it as an excuse to drink. Hell, the college town I'm in even has an Unoffical St. Patrick's day the Friday before, since Spring break usually covers the day. They don't want to miss any of the revenue from all the drunk college students.

Me, I think I'm going to go throw my corned beef in now, then maybe go out with some friends tonight to a local bar that's going to have live Irish folk songs and $2.50 pints of Guiness. What is it about pub songs where ANYBODY can sing them it seems  Big grin

I'm half-Irish. The other half is French-Canadian! 17 March and 24 June are my days (St. Patrick's Day and St. Jean-Baptiste Day, also know as La Fête nationale in Québec, respectively).

My paternal grandmother came from Ireland. I should be downtown raising a pint right now, but I don't care for beer. I'll toast the day with a few shots of Cuervo Gold while standing under the sign pointing the way to Tipparary. Big grin

You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!
