Are Discos Still Trendy In Your Country?

Sun Jun 01, 2003 6:38 pm

Here, in Italy, we have lots of discos, but they aren't very trendy.

Youngsters prefer go to disco pubs.

This thing started about 5 or 6 years ago and now discos are crowded only a few days a year.

No....thank God.

I think people stopped going to discos in 1981.

Does anybody still use the word "disco"? It sounds so 1980s.  Smile

(I still go to both.)

Nobody calls them "disco's" anymore. We just say clubs. They're still trendy in America.

They are still popular, although not like they used to be in the 70's and 80's i think. I don't like them all that much myself.

Disco and Club=The same thing? I would certainly say it's the same thing.

Disco is the older term, at least here.

Whenever I go to a club, my parents prefer to use the term disco which sounds a lot more like their generation. Basically, it does the same thing, although the layout is probably a bit different - mum was shocked to hear there's nowhere to sit down at the KU Club.

"Disco and Club=The same thing?"

Good point!!
But here, a "disco" is something akin to a childs school end of year function where teachers are in attendance, lemonade is the hardest beverage consumed and it's all over by 9pm.

A "club" however is just that.
Nightclubbing 'til all hours of the night (and morning), drink what you want, drugs available if you know who to ask (unfortunately!), and the latest Techno, Rap sounds etc with maybe a couple of giant video screens, bouncers on the door and the "woman" you've been chatting up for the last hour turns out to be your best mate's fifteen year old daughter.  Wow!

Do people still use the term *Discoteque* ?

*shudders*

We have stacks of pub / clubs that do 70's + 80's what they call *Retro* nights.

Haven't been to one in a while.

Hoo Roo!
