Any Songs Give You A Chill?

Thu Jun 12, 2003 1:19 pm

So are there any songs that when you listen to them, there's something about them that gives you a chill? That feeling up and down your spine? Something so good about it that every time you hear it the song still does it to you?

Here's two that do it to me:

U2 - "Where The Streets Have No Name"
Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris"

For me, there are 2 songs:
"Celtic Bagpipes - Amazing Grace" - I remember hearing for the first time (that is, Amazing Grace being played on a bagpipe) when the English Queen Mother wa buried, and it just gave me chills.
"Patty Smith - Alive (Live at Roskilde Festival 2001)" - It was the last song that I heard at that festival, and I really got the shivers when the intro was played. Because my mind went straight back to the previous festival, where 9 young men had been crushed to death during a concert with Pearl Jam.

"Space Between" by Dave Matthews Band gets me good cause it reminds me of someone that has brought a combination of joy and sorrow to my life and I'll never forget her for it.

Also...

"Kite" by U2
"I've Been High" by R.E.M
"Stood Up For Love" by Live

Several others...but these certainly give me the goosebumps so to speak.

Okay, I'm probably older than you guys, but "Invisible Sun" by the Police sent shivers up my spine when I heard it in high school (~1980) and still does the odd time I hear it.

"Space Between" by Dave Matthews Band gets me good

Yeah.....that one (more than any other) gets on my brain and I can't get it out. It's addictive and haunting.

Also, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Every once in a while, "Adiemus", that Delta song (no pun), gives me one. But there are some songs that can get me messed up because they make me remember great passed times, like "You're Just Too Good To Be True" by Andy Williams or "Giulia" by Capital Inicial (Brazilian). "Velvet" by a-ha feels strange, too.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

"No more tears" by Ozzy Osbourne. Heavenly piece of music in the middle.  Smile But in general I like the way the song is built up.

I have to add U2 'Where The Streets Have No Name' as well. The first time I heard it was on a beautiful clear day looking down on the West Coast of the USA when I was on board a Virgin 744 cruising at FL390. The combination of such a brilliant song, the awesome view and the excitement I had at the start of the holiday was just amazing. I always think back to that moment whenever I hear that song.

"In A Little While" and just about anything from the Joshua Tree. U2 seems to be able to give that "chill" with just about any song they record.

Stevie Ray Vaughns' instrumental cover of 'Little Wing'. Man, can that guy play guitar. Also the beginning of 'Since I've been Loving You' by Led Zeppelin.

Abba's "Fernando" is a song I have been listening to since April and I cannot get enough. Every time I listen to it, it brings back memories of flight 8F 2202 from MLA to PRG which I took on 24th March, probably the best flight ever in my life.
(Just for the record, the song was played as boarding music.)

"Every Generation's got it's own Disease" - Fury in the Slaughterhouse
"Inside Out" - Anthrax
"I'll fall on Your Knife" - Peter Murphy
"The Pass" - Rush
"Blood Brothers" - Iron Maiden
"Prime Mover" - Rush

Needless to say I have an eclectic taste in music  Nuts

"Eclectic" is correct.

"O Canada" does it to me.

Anything by Enya.

The reason i wondered about the spelling is that Wyclef Jean's last album was called "The Ecleftic". "ecleftic" probably was a spinn off on his name Wyclef then i guess.

Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber; This one is just simply beautiful. It was used in Platoon when the chopper is lifting off leaving the lone American soldier to be shot. That scene is moving, but to me the song brings back memories of good people in my life who have passed away. When the music climaxes it's like a soul breaking free into a higher existance.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus - Newsboys; Actually a lot of praise music will do it, but this one was the first that came to mind.

About as far apart in the spectrum as you can get, but here goes:

"Unchained" by Van Halen

"Love is on the Air" by Lou Rawls

I second what someone else said above. "Cry" by Faith Hill does it for me. What a honey she is. There's also "Jump" by Van Halen i think - the one with the Blue Angels film clip in the background-Awesome!

The name of the song eludes me, but it was Van HAGAR, not Van Halen.
