POLL: What Is Your Connection Speed?

Fri Jun 13, 2003 3:18 am

Well, it seems more and more people are jumping on the broadband bandwagon, as have I.

I'm taking a poll to see how many people are still stuck with dialup or other slow internet connections. It's useful to know when designing websites and deciding if that file is too big to put on the profile  Big grin

So,

1) What is your method of connection?
2) What is your download and upload speed?

I'll start off:

I use cable internet, 2-3mbps down, 128kbps up.

Now you:

At home:
3Mbps down, 0.5Mbps up.

At work:
Switched Gbit on every desk, and the mother of all backbones.
Not that we actually use it for downloading movies or mp3s. How unprofessional would that be?  Wink/being sarcastic

I also should add:

Those with dial-up, what is preventing you from getting high-speed? Availabilty, cost, etc. ?

Woah  Smile How do you change the channels on the TV? Is it just like a regular cable-box setup?

He doesn't subscribe to any on-line cable he just picks up free stations where he can so changing channels means opening a new site, a little clunky.

I don't know what a regular cable box set-up is, never had cable.

Shawn - there really isn't any cable TV in Japan. It is mainly satellite (NHK BS) or digital (Perfect TV). I don't have a TV so have no clue on prices.

Shawn Patrick,

I do most of my surfing at work, so there's no need to plunk down $40-50 for high-speed at home (plus dial-up speed is reasonable during off-peak hours)

Telewest Blueyonder Broadband: 512kbps downstream, 256kbps upstream. Was on the 1M/sec service but just couldn't justify the extra tenner a month!

Earthlink DSL:
According to the bandwidth test on PCPitstop:
Download: 1231 Kb/s
Upload: 214 Kb/s

Ran similar tests on other sites and had similar results (varied + or - 2 Kb/s).
