The Wings #1 Goalie Is......

According to Yahoo!, Manny Legace should be the Detroit Red Wing's #1 goalie.

I have been saying this for the past 3 years.

I am still pissed that the wings were actually dumb enough to pick up Hasek again. I think it's funny how they have 17.2 million dollars worth of goalies (8 for Hasek and Joseph, 1.2 for Legace).

They need to give Legace a chance to start or he should go somewhere else.

The Bruins desperately need a goalie, the won't go anywhere with Steve Shields or Andrew Raycroft. There were rumors that CuJO was coming here but there's no way they would pay $8 million for an old goalie.

Man, I'm so out of it when it comes to hockey. I miss it. I havent followed it for four years, and I dont know WAHTS going on.

Life has been so busy and I lost a little interest when my man Joey Kocur retired.

Absolutely. Legace is far more technically sound than either one of the old goats they have in there now.

Yeah, because Hasek did not Dominate as a Goalie just 2 seasons ago, including a dominating Playoff performance.....

Two words: Trade Bait. Several teams are entering training camp in less than two weeks without a clear #1 goalie. Colorado comes to mind first. The Red Wings are one of several teams who could have an extra goalie available for trade. CuJo would be the more likely player to be dangled as trade bait, and I would not be surprised to see him in an Avs uniform by Opening Night. Detroit's always had a pretty good #1 goalie, and their backups have had moments of brillance while with the Wings, but some have faltered once they left the team. Case in point, Norm "Fatboy" Maracle. Went from being Detroit's #2 goalie to being a #1 goalie in the AHL. And to add insult to injury, he became the Chicago Wolves #2 several times during the last season. The Thrashers did not resign him, and thankfully, we're rid of him. I went to one of the preseason scrimmages last season during training camp, and I think the only round thing he could catch is a doughnut. Hasek is the #1 going into camp by default, but since he has not played behind the pipes in two seasons (he's still in good shape, as he played some defense in a local amateur league back home last season) how much rust does he have. Could he resume being "The Dominator", or will he be this season's Byron Dafoe?

Well, in fairness to Dafoe, he was hurt for the majority of last season.. Hasek's excuse is that he's old!

What galls me is that Illitch and his hockey viceroys are spending so much time and attention on the hockey team (that is probably past its prime) while the baseball division of the pizza empire languishes.

Illitch certainly has the "ying and yang" of professional sports team ownership in the Wings and Tigers. He should sell the Tigers. His ownership of this team has been a disgrace. It is a powerful argument against the notion of one person owning mre than one major league franchise.

As for Hasek and Cujo, it was a big mistake to bring the Dominator back.

Dafoe's injuries were related to being out of action for as long as he was. He trained with a collegiate team up in Massachuetts while waiting for a team to contact him, but college players are not exactly NHL-caliber players. Hasek has not faced or trained against NHL players in nearly two seasons, and he may not be up to his old form yet. With NHL training camps opening in about a week, we'll start to see if the Dominator is back in form yet. If he struggles in preseason action, the naysayers will start questioning his return. If he shows that he's not missed a beat, Cujo is going to be on the next plane to Denver.

The Wings can put whomever they want in the pipes...doesn't matter. 'Cause the Stars are going to overwhelm them this year anyway. (Sorry, I hadn't talked trash in a long while)

I could care less who the Wings start in goal, I just want my team, the Atlanta Thrashers to disprove all of the so-called "hockey experts". The team had one of the best records in the second half of the season last season, and finished 11th in the East (especially after starting off as horrible as they did). How can these "experts" pick them to finish worse than they did last season? Of course the same "experts" last season didn't even pick Tampa, Anaheim, and Minnesota to do as well as they did last season.

Being from St. Louis, it was cool to see Hullie, Shannie and Cujo back on the same team last year. I hope Hasek falls on his face. To push Cujo aside for someone who hasn't been doing anything but getting in roller hockey fights over the last year just baffles me. I hope, if they do trade Cujo, it's to the Avs and they lift the cup next year.
