Your First Job?

Mon Nov 03, 2003 12:30 pm

What was your first ever job and who did you work for?

Mine was working at a Bi-Lo grocery store where it took 1 and a half years to get a raise.

What was you first job?

My first ever was working in a manufacturing plant, it was called TaylorMade Golf. I was a check packer for 3 weeks and in production with a lot of overtime for about another 5 weeks. It was stressful that was why I left.

My First-Kind of Job
1996-1999, Camp Counselor for "Summer By the Lake." A summer program my school did for our K-6th graders. The kids from the highschool were usually counselors. Had to take them to chapel every morning to hear Father Marlin give his speech, then off to play sports, ride at the stables, and teach them fundamental French.

My First REAL Job
1999-2002 Summer Intern for Senator Stratton Taylor, the President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma State Senate. I was in charge of correspondance (envelope stuffing, licking, stamping) and worked in the media division. Then once they finally got a machine to do that, I was moved to research. Also during that time I worked for Garvin Isaacs, a criminal defense attorney in OKC.

KMart.

six bucks an hour, 40 hrs a week for about 2 and a half months one summer. It was a lot of money when you are just 16/17 years old.

The sad thing is, 6 years later, I am only making $7.25/hr working at Bed Bath and Beyond.

My first job was at McDonalds.

It was hurtin' to see myself in those ridiculous uniforms plus the hat.
What was even more painful was that one day 8 girlfriends from my High School class decided to head down there during my shift to grab food to STAY!

Unbelivable Humiliation, its like being killed by the Gauntlet in Quake 3 or Knife in Counterstrike.

At least I had the nerve to wave at them from a distance  Smile haha!
Later I had no choice but to visit them while eating their munch which I made minutes earlier at the line. At the end I did reveal a flaw from most of the girls. Littering..

My first job: Staples in Massachusetts... sucked wind like there was no tomorrow.

My first real (a.k.a. post-college) job: Information Builders. What a pathetic dry-heave of a company... hence I just barely made it one year before moving on to bigger and better.

LOL...KROC, I'll give credit where credit is due.

My first job was as a cashier at Publix in Duluth, Ga. for $7.00 an hour. I worked there for two years...no raise. I bet it was a combination of my 'I don't care' attitude and an over-the-top gung-ho management team.

My first school job was as a cook (not cock) helper in a full service restaurant. I've been there for 3 years.
First year working only 1 day a week.
Second year working 2 days a week.
Third year working 3 days a week.

I was making whole $3 per month in a first year, then add extra $2 for the second year and 3rd year was also only $5 a month hehe

My first Real after graduation job was working as a Chief in a full service restaurant. I was making $100 a month. I was there for almost a year and then I came to USA.

My first job in US is the one I currently have. Over 7 years in the same office. I make in one day here what I would make in one month in Poland  Smile

I have been cutting neighbors lawns since I was 10, but thats not official.

The first real job was working at Taco Bell, and It was complete hell. I only did it because some friends worked there, which made it a little bit easier, but I cringe everytime I drive by one now, not because the food was bad, I just hated working there.

Now I work at an FBO, much better  Big thumbs up

At 11, I started working after school at my father's butcher shop in Rock Springs, Wyoming. My job was helping with cleaning up, wrapping, and boxing orders for delivery. Starting pay was $.35 per hour, and I thought I was rich.

First job was as a bagger at Kroger for a whopping $4.25/hr. I did that for about two months and went to work at Winn-Dixie as a produce clerk (started out at the same pay rate, but got raises practically every three months. When I left 13 months later, I was making over $6 an hour).

Taco Bell with I was 15.
My job was to cut the cheese.
I'd cut these huge blocks of cheese with this huge blade down to small blocks.
Then I'd put the small blocks in to shredders.

Awesome! Next thing you know MattD will come on and say his first job was at the Hershey factory in Shipping and Receiving where his duties included packing the fudge and taking packages in the rear.

CactusA319:
Seriously, my job was to specifically cut the cheese.
I didn't work there long enough to get promoted to the refried beans. I know it sounds silly but that was how the Taco Bell hierarchy was set up back then.

Funny thing was when I was getting interviewed for a 2nd. job at a movie theater, I was ask what my job was at Taco Bell. I told him that I cut the cheese. He thought I was just being a bratty teenager and just ended the interview.
You can easily get pigeon-holed being a cheese cutter.

A bus boy (cleaned tables) for a local Mexican restaurant that my mom also worked at as a waitress. I was 15. Now I'm 22 and can't say I'm doing much better. Working as a Computer Technician two days a week making $8/hr, going to school and also trying to start a small company. While wishing I was in the air getting paid.  Crying

Hahaha

When I was 8 I started delivering newspapers to about 60 houses. That paid me about $300 per month and I did this until I was 12.

At 14 I applied at Taco Bell and was hired. I was also one of the best damn employees they had. I could do everything except for the duties of the supervisors. I was also considered for a promotion but because of my age was not allowed to supervise.

From there about a year later, I worked for a few months at a convenience store just putting cans and bottles of pop into the refridgerator and onto the floor. I also had to sweep and mop the entire store which was quite large.

From there I went on to work at Tim Hortons where I was a store front host. I eventually became a Baker and then a Supervisor.

Just recently I have resigned from my position and have now been hired at MEXX CANADA as a Fashion Consultant.

All this before my 18th birthday.

I know I was suppose to write about my first real job, but I kind of got carried away.

Meh.

My first job was for the local school district's IT department. We have 3 technicians (including me) and 1200 computers that we support on a daily basis, best of all with teachers who have no idea how to use them. I am now a senior in high school and have had then job now for a year and a half and love it. Doesn't pay worth s%*$ though.

Worked at Arby's for a few months when I was 14. Made $6.50/hr there and had to quit because they didn't give me enough hours.

Now I've been a bagger at Kroger for a year and a half. $6.40/hr

LOL, USAirways757. My first job was also at a PennTraffic-owned grocery store: Big Bear.

I started at the tender age of 15, bagging groceries and bringing shopping carts in from the parking lot. I eventually transferred to the bakery department and became a clerk there. It also took my over a year to finally get a raise.

I started at K Mart as a "2000" (stockman).
This one evening I was loading the shelves with these desks (you know the kind that you buy and take home to put together) and the shelf shifted and two of the boxes fell down on my back and head. But, I was OK after a few minutes and everything was fine.

I was also a "2000" (stockman) at K Mart. That was my first job.

I worked at a Miniature Golf course making $6.50 an hour. Wasn't bad for a 15 year old kid. From there I became a Lift Ticket Scanner for a major ski resort, was making $9.00. That was a hell of an increase for a 15 year old kid doing less work then I did at the mini golf course. Since then I have moved up the lines and now sell the tickets and season passes for the same ski resort. I now work about 20 hours a week.

I went to a private IB school, so when I was just 15-years-old I was forced to get co-op work... I got hired in, underaged, on the services side of a major cargo corporation and moved into the air operations when I was 18. I've been there almost seven years... where's my life gone  Sad . I've also held various summer jobs, including one in which I sat on my ass all day while working for my then-g/f's dad.

I mowed grass since I was 13 or 14

First Official Job (meaning with an actual paycheck):
Lackey on a surveying crew (back when I was going to be a Civil E)

Best pay for doing nothing job:
was a chem tutor at Sinclair Community College (Sinclair: when you're going nowhere)

Worst job EVER:
Telemarketer. It does not matter if the calls are coming to you or you are calling them (I have done both). It still comes down to discovering the sheer stupidity of people walking the earth and having to speak with at least 200 a$$holes a day on the phone. But being poor and in college its hard to argue with $10 something an hour.

AA61hvy which DAY area Kroger did you sack at? You may have worked with someone I know.

Documentation monkey for an insurance software team.

Average pay, and I was living with my parents (no rent &c), and I was doing so much overtime that I never spent any money on shopping / socialising / travel. However, I also had a leech girlfriend. Hence, when the job ended after 4 months, I had about 2 days' pay in savings.

My first job involved making a dick of myself in front of thousands of people at sporting events at Melbournes MCG during the football/cricket season shouting HOT PIES AND COLD DRINKS CHOCOLATE BARS ICE CREAMS. and then i had to overcharge the pricks who felt sorry enough for me to lighten the load of the dicky looking food carrier thing they gave us. Now i work at a indoor kids playcentre, i am pretty much in control of the security at the place which also involves turfing paedophiles out and havin them taken by the local pigs to get plugged in the pen. I hate the job but i get paid 12.50 a hour so its alright
