Please answer only if you are AB- so I can count to see just how rare it is (On this site).

Interesting that this comment came up on the other thread:

They would probably screen you if you had a rare blood type

This is not true. A lot of people think that it's the rare blood types which the medical teams are desperately looking for when they ask for blood donors.

But they're not - in fact, the medics are most desperate for the commonest type, group 'O'. That's because group 'O' is the most versatile blood - it's known as the 'universal donor' because practically anyone can receive group 'O' without any problems, making it by far the most valuable blood type to keep in stock.

People seem to believe that it's the rare types which need to turn up to give blood. They're wrong - it's group 'O' blood which forms the backbone of transfusion work, and the type which is needed most. It's not unusual in the UK for a group 'O' donor to receive a personal phone call from the blood service to remind them to come along and donate.

If you're group 'O' then don't think you're nothing special. Your blood is sought more than any other type - so if you're not already a donor, you might want to think about signing up. There's a lot of people who'd be very grateful.
