Where Do You Want To Live?

Mon Jan 05, 2004 4:58 pm

Simple enough question--where do you want to live when you get out of school, or where ideally would you live (within reason).

I think once I get out of college before going to get an MBA, I'll either live in New York City or Los Angeles. I'm leaning towards Los Angeles because despite New York City's vastly better social scene and all my favorite sports teams all being there, you just can't beat 70-80 degree weather year round. You also can't beat being near the Pacific Ocean (sorry, looking at guido chicks on the Jersey shore or Jones Beach just doesn't do it for me). I just love driving around Southern California and through the foothills. Most importantly, I want to own a car, which gets pretty expensive in the city, and is also quite pointless. In my opinion, NYC and Los Angeles have the same amount of talent around as well, although the women from both places generally have bitchy, shallow attitudes.

Once I have a family (when I'm fourty...  Big grin ) I'll probably want to live in southeastern Connecticut, where I spent a lot of my childhood. Its a great place to live--its safe, relatively scenic, and close to New York City. I really can't think of a better place to raise a kid.

I keep telling everyone I moved to the west side of the Cascades to get away from the snow and ice. Yet, here we are with six inces on the ground and more on the way  Sad Still, I can't imagine living anywhere else in the US than Portland/Vancouver.

Vancouver BC would be way better so I could say

GO CANUCKS!!

and be in more company...
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

I am happy living here in San Francisco.

Other places I'd consider would be Duluth, Minesota, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Vancouver B.C. Canada, or Amsterdam, Holland.

Ohhhh, in an ideal world I'd live in the islands. In a nice town with a low crime rate and a nice view of the mountains and the ocean. Someplace peaceful, but close enough to a large (safe) big city so as to provide oppotunity to watch airliners land and take off, and a good amount of stores in the area too. (For stuffs like out of print records or cds which are hard to find in smaller cities; good electronics stores, etc).

And not too many bugs. Even in the real hawaii I dont think such a place exists. Good balance between moderate sized city and nature...without the crime.

If money were no issue I'd probably try living in maui within the next few years. but money is an issue, and I'll probably never make it.

When all my studies have finished, I wish to practise (as a barrister) in London, primarily because that's the 'hub' of law in England and Wales. In addition, there are several superb chambers which specialise in crime (my preferred area of specialisation) - not to mention the excellent range of pubs, restaurants and so forth. The only potential problem is the high price of houses and flats.

Sydney, Australia.

Been twice, and I can't wait to go again.. surpasses all expectations!!!

Of course in an ideal world i'd live in Port Douglas and work with one of the reef tours or something.. but thats impossible and the weather isn't so good up there anyway  Big grin

I was in San Diego in June for the San Diego marathon and fell in love with the place. I need to make a fortune of money so I can buy a condo on Coronado Island with a view that looks back towards the city.

Beautiful weather, lots of aviation (military and civilian) and surrounded by the water. What more could anyone ask for?

I like living in Manhattan, but would LOVE to live in Europe for awhile... Amsterdam, or somewhere in Germany probably (Hamburg, Berlin). Eventually, the plan is to move to FLL full-time. I love Chicago too, and could also see myself living in California or Canada.

My choices would be Manhattan,London or Munich.
I want COLD winters, not like Santiago's winter, that is quite cold but not as much as I'd like it to be. And also humid summers, not like Santiago's that are hot and dry (between december and march you will NEVER see a cloud over this city).
that's it...I'm bored of this boring mediterranean climate.

NYC is nice for now, LA is a little better weather wise.
London has a certain charm.
Barcelona would be nice though after being there last Summer.
If I had my way and didn't have to work, I would spend Xmas in NYC, Winters between LA and Ocho Rios and Spring between Paris and London for Wimbledon.
Fall wouldn't exist!

I dream of someday having a townhouse in Berlin, preferably in Prenzlauer Berg.

Reykjavik is also an appealing place to me, although I imagine I'd get bored after a while.

I would like to live in either Dubai, United Arab Emirates or Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I live in the latter now, and really like it. Sure, I have to drive 1 hour to get to anything exciting, but it's a great place to live.

Being from the western U.S., I miss it sometimes, but I'm really starting to come around to the east coast thing. Perhaps in the future, I'll live somewhere in the mid or south Atlantic region. I love New England though, and Boston is treating me well. I could just as easily stay around here, although I'm no big fan of the nor'easter. I could also see myself going back to the Great Lakes, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

First Choice..

Some place near the Ocean in California, San Francisco, Pacifica, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Malibu, San Clemente.

Or Boston, awesome town!

Or if Im going to stay in the NYC area I would like to live in either..

Hoboken NJ, Tribeca, Soho, Upperwest Side.

If I was to stay in New Jersey I can't think of a better place to raise a family than where I live right now. My hometown just made Forbes list of best place to live on the East Coast with a population of less than 100,000, it ranked Second behind some town in Virginia as the best place to live on the East coast.

Well for now Florida. I will be living there in a year and a half for college. It's going to be so nice, it's currently -22F here in MN, and 80F in FL, 102 degree difference. It's literally become a joke up here, it'll be one big relief, plus I used to live in FL so I know my way around. Other than that, Croatia, I love it over there.

Wow, where would I love to live!!!!!????

Well first of all wherever it is........it would have to be with someone who shared the same interests....aircraft, music, fishing, horseback riding, swimming & just plain hanging out -- someone who is full of life (spunky/frisky) has a great sense of humor and loves the outdoors --- and enjoys quiet secluded places so that the maximum privacy was available to do whatever we wanted....... Big thumbs up

I also would want to have my private licence & float endorsement! A must........

These are some of the places I would like to live:

Madison, WI or Green Bay, WI. Nice, cold, snowy winters. Not too big, not too much congestion, and not too expensive to live in.

I always fancied going to live in New Zealand.. it's far away and beautiful but still has the resemblance of home...Wales in the United Kingdom!

Me and my girlfriend are planning on going there for about 8 weeks when we leave college..if we really like it..we'll stay!

If I end up finishing with my girlfriend.. well I'd like to live in somewhere in southern Spain (no not the holiday resorts) but somewhere more inland with a few rolling hills and a picture perfect view of the Mediterranean sea!

If that fails.. USA - Los Angeles.. been there ten's of times.. what a fabulous place!

Regards..

I have always liked the Midwest. But recently I have gotten so fed up with snow and cold weather that I don't really want to live in it any more.
In a couple of years Im moving to Orlando, I'll see how I like it there.

I live in LA right now and I cant really say i like it all that much. I'd probably go for Vancouver (been there and loved the city), San Diego (much better than L.A. in my opinion), Denver (great scenery, nice city), Seattle (great city-not the best weather, but i kinda like rain), or maybe someplace in Michigan. I'd probably wanna live in NYC for a few years when I'm in my 20's or something.

Somewhere in Australia. Sydney would be great but from what I hear its an expensive place to live. Superfly, why Duluth? I was just up there last week visiting family. I've been many times mostly in the summer. Summers are great but the winters are horribly cold.

EmiratesA345, I went to school at the University of Waterloo. I am a proud Math geek. While I was there, I lived one year in residence and the rest in the Columbia Lake Townhouses, right by Columbia Road and Westmount Road. I loved it there. I worked at Mutual (Clarica) for two work terms and really enjoyed that too.

Qantasforever, I am so jealous. I always wanted to live in Monaco. Closest I'll ever get is my house now - the model name is Monaco.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Ah, sweet irony.

I hope to eventually head back to Canada - hopefully move to Vancouver before the Olympics.

I'd also like to live in Languedoc-Roussillon, southern France.

I love the city where I live in. Bogotá, Colombia. Despite being close to the equator its altitude above sea level (8600ft) (26oomts closer to the stars) provides the perfect weather for the city: lowest temperature around 32F and highest by 70F. It is also a big city (8M people) with plenty of action and also full with job opportunities and despite it's size it is between the safest places in the country, also a good point is that you don't see too many race's exchange or cultural diversity, it is a very close society.

Sure Qb001

In this city you just don't find easily Blacks, Caucasian, Chinese, European, Jews, Arabs, Muslims......etc, there are a few of course but they are a minority, as I have said in other thread I do not consider myself as a member of any race even when my skin is white (I am too short, brown eyes, black hair, to be consider as a white) and so most of the inhabitants of this city are, more than 96% of the population are catholics, so we do not really have cultural crashes or differences here; and that pleased me and is the perfect place for me to live in. is it clear for you now?

(Of course there are places in this country where, for example, blacks are majority (pacific coast), or whites (german descents) are majority (Santander) I am only talking about my city.

It's just that I'm not that comfortable with the notion of someone appreciating the homogeneity of his/her society. It reminds me of that moron I had to do business with in SLC. In a very "small talk" kind of discussion, I told him that I didn't see a lot of Black people here in SLC. He was so proud to tell me that Utah "gene pool" was very good indeed... Just by the look on my face, he changed the topic.

Anyway, heterogeneous societies tend to be more dynamic.

---------------------------

it can be true, however I rather live in a "static" society than on a dynamic one, it is just a matter of likes and dislikes; I love the way I live here. Also, a more dynamic society doesn't mean a better society.
