I am referring to Arizona State University.

I am visiting the campus in February. Do you enjoy/did you enjoy going to school there? What did you major in? Did you like it there? If not, why so? Any cool places or spots to hang out at? Any hidden treasures? Your responses are appreciated.

that place is a ZOO. Downtown tempe is really nice though, tons of eatiers and bars and what not, if that's your thing.

You couldn't pay me to go to school there, but I think 45,000 people would disagree with me there, so who knows.....

Re: Mill Ave.

A lot of this comes from the opinions of my brother and sister-in-law... ASU class of 1997 btw. Mill used to be a pretty cool and hip place that had a lot of local flavor... save for the nazi-style law enforcement tactics. More and more so it has become corporatized and homogenized. I mean once you've seen one Urban Outfitters you have seen them all. Pretty much most of the original local businesses are all but gone, replaced by the chains and cookie-cutter frat bars. I personally find the campus to be ugly, others might call it ecletic, as about every imaginable architectual style is represented somewhere on campus. The upside to it being a "zoo" as George is that there are a lot of different social groups on campus, from the communter student, to the non-trad, to the bookworm, to the kids from SoCal and the Midwest (perhaps not unlike yourself) interested in 4 years of fun in the sun.

Now I would say go and check out Arizona as well(class of 2002 here). While some parts of Tucson are a hole, it has a much cooler vibe to it than Tempe in my ever so humble opinion. While parts of University Ave, right east of Main Gate, have become somewhat corporatized (with your Urban Outfitters and Chipotle), 4th ave and Congress remain delightfully Tucsoneqse... with dive bars, hipster bars, frat bars, and everything in between. Not to mention Tucson has bigger and cooler mountains than Phoenix does. Lets not forget Arizona's campus is far better looking... we still have grass on campus and at least every building uses some variation of red brick.

I'll second what DesertJets said of UofA. That was one of my main choices until I decided on the University of Oregon. Tucson is weird, some trash, but mostly nice. Hotter than hell, but I guess most of Arizona is.

Loved the UofA campus, it fit right into the landscape. There will be a lot to do in Phoenix though, it's the 6th biggest metro area now!

I dunno how you can say Tucson is weird living in Eugene.... half the town reeks of petruli or pot... not to mention you never get to see the sun in the winter, unless the fog lifts out of the valley.

Of course I exaggerate too. At least you have a decent football team.

ASU is a nice school! I am a junior now and would not want to go anywhere else! The local area has alot of offer and the girls are plentiful! Plus the weather is also very nice this time of year! Sky Harbor airport is just a short 5 minute or so drive away to view as many A320's, 757's, as you like as well as the British Airways 777-200 (747-400 as of march), Lufthansa A340-300 and Hawaiian 767! you would like going to ASU! The Business school really has its act together as well! Enjoy your stay!

It's pretty well known as the 'A'rizona 'S'chool for 'U'nderachievers--a party school for the less advantaged!

At one point in the 90's, they had a rankable Business College...but I don't know where it stands now.

I think for the large part the university...or at least some of the colleges (Business and Architecure) are greatly underrated for their excellence.

I imagine campus life is pretty hot...but that doesn't do you much good after graduation.

Good Luck.

Um....tell me, what color is the sky in your world?  Insane

Let me give you the differences this way; Tempe has nightlife.

Tucson has.....night.

While both ASU and UofA are decent schools, ASU is far better for the whole "college experience" in general.

Thanks for your responses guys. I can't wait to visit! Anyone know how difficult it is to get into ASU? ACT or SAT scores?

I think a hearbeat and a checkbook are all that are required!

Is ASU still listed as a non-competitive school...or did it make it up a rung on the ladder?

I think cost would be the concern for out-of-state...not addmitance.

There used to be a website that you could check number of applicants vs. number accepted...which would give you a pretty good idea....

Brgds.

Ned: Maude look we're in heaven!
Maude: Hey, isn't that Homer Simpson?
Ned: I guess heaven's easier to get into than Arizona State!

"A heart beat and a check book"

Oh c'mon, it can't be that easy to get in!
