Are Online IQ Tests Accurate?

Thu Jan 22, 2004 9:00 am

I just took that IQ test that advertises here on A.net? It says I have an IQ of 118, I am only 16 so if that is low I still have time to develop. It says I am good at math and verbal skills and are an equistive inventor. It didn't take very long, which is why I am asking if they are bogus.

This number is the result of a formula based on how many questions you answered correctly on Emode's Classic IQ test. Your IQ score is scientifically accurate; to read more about the science behind our IQ test, click here.
During the test, you answered four different types of questions — mathematical, visual-spatial, linguistic and logical. We were able to analyze how you did on of those questions, which reveals the way your brain processes information.

We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test, and according to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is an Inventive Inquisitor.

You have the unusual distinction of being equally good at math and verbal skills. This means you are a creative thinker and are uniquely good at teaching others through experiences. You are also a great improviser and very good at handling change.

First of all an IQ of 118 is above average... all IQ tests are normed at 100.

But I wouldn't take the results with much confidence. Real IQ tests are fairly long and complex and usually need somebody who knows what they are doing to administer him. So don't go around just yet claiming genius.

I got 120 on that test. Last time I took one I was around 16 and got something like 118 also.

I guess I'm 'gifted' at 153 +/- 12 points for error...but I still can't program my VCR.  Smile
I'd say the tests are bullshit.

It was my understanding that true IQ tests are administered three times over a three month period and are averaged.

177/Genius here. I was also elected Smartest for our yearbook by a margin of 92 to 6 and won Most Likely To Succeed by 52 votes. There are only 217 students in the grade.

These tests work really good! If you do them and believe them, you have a low IQ. If you don't do them and don't believe them you have a high IQ.

If you want an accurate measure of IQ, take a supervised psychometric test.

JBird is correct...a shameless self glossing has occured.

L-1011: anything having to do with "your class", whether it's being in the yearbook, winning a varsity letter, or being voted "most likely to succeed", once graduation day comes, nobody gives a rats ass anymore. Therefore, in recogniztion of your despiccable, reeking, shameless, putrid, stinky pat on your own back,it is my duty to announce that

Yeah, Greg. Shouldn't you be out suing The Adventure People instead of taking online IQ tests?

I'd say it's probably not very accurate, since real IQ tests are timed.
