I don't know about you guys, but ever since this law was signed, a few weeks ago, I feel that I receive twice as much spam that I used to.
Any similar experience, or is it just me?

It's not just you, I've have three e-mail addresses and the spam has increased a lot lately to two of them. One of them was already pretty spam heavy (Yahoo! addresses are quite often heavily spammed) and yet another all of a sudden had a massive increase in spam (I used to get maybe 5-10 spams a week at that address, now I'm getting like 20 a day, and this is including using e-mail filters at that address). Thankfully my ISP e-mail address will never get too much spam because the ISP is very much one of the leading ISPs in keeping spam out their users' e-mails.

Australia is about to introduce new anti-spam law in 2004.
One of the major deficiencies in the law however is that it does not cover spam that originates outside Australia, which means you can keep receiving Spam...and lots of it, so long as the sender is outside Australia! Many wonder how effective the law will be here. Time will tell.

I've actually been getting spam on my main email address, which would hardly ever receive spam in the past. I doubt it has anything to do with the anti-spam law, since spammers will just do it anyway, or take their stuff overseas. Most of the junk email I receive is coming from Asia based IP addresses, so I really don't see this law having any "major" effect. I do support it though and really hope we can crack down on spammers as much as we do on some other things 
At home I am running SpamNet, which does a great job at removing the crap. I can also set filters right on my domain which move stuff to /dev/null if needed.

Prevention is better than cure; just don't let your address be visible anywhere a bot could find it. 
My normal mailboxes only get 1 or 2 items of spam per week, max. I have a few spamtrap addresses that rarely get read; if I could be bothered spending time on them it would be through a Bayesian filter.

A tip: put and underscore in your email address like [email protected]
