Right, that'll teach ya! Fines for creeping on the road should be like that, too!  Big grin

How much in USD is that?

I know in Texas, maybe in the US also, if you double the speed limit you are automatically taken to jail-if caught

I think it's roughly the same, probably up to 180,000$.

That's the way fines should be calculated - according to ones income. I get 800$ a month from the state since I go to college, yet I get to pay the same as a someone who earns 8,000$ a month.

170000€ = 215798 US$ by todays rate (1.2694 $/€)

Germany has a similar system: Some fines are scaled by "days of income". I think it makes a lot of sense.

The lesson learned in this is that if you're going to speed in Finland, make sure your income is nil.

Ummm.... theoretically, yes. Big grin
I fortunately don´t have a lot of experience in that field, but I guess there´s still a minimum fine...  Wink/being sarcastic

I like this method. It's logical.

Some other countries have a standard "range" of fines, with income-testing to decide where in the range your punishment will be; very wealthy people would typically pay the maximum amount.

The main difference is that Finland has removed the upper limit. For all the other drivers, it's not so different.
