Your Favorite Simpson Episodes/Moments/Quotes

Fri Mar 12, 2004 4:33 pm

I appreciate many older people dislike the Simpson with a passion, but I love it. Whats your favorite episode or moment and if you are like me, obsessed enough to be able to quote your favorite lines please do.

Mine are;

The one where Homer goes on hunger strike

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem"

And the one in Australia

after Bart moons to the Australian jury

Marge "that's very sweet dear, but I'd wish you had chosen a more tasteful way of being patriotic"
Lisa "I'm just surprised he managed to write so legibly on is own butt"

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Great thread you have started here!

My favourite episode is when the Simpsons goes to NYC to pick up Homers car that Barney borrowed after Barney and Homer got drunk at Moes Tavern.
And Barney cant remember where he parked the car. And some days after Homer gets a parking ticket from NYC. And the whole family goes to New York to pick it up.

Homer 1 -New York 0

That episode still makes me laugh! It's an absolutly must see!!! Like every Simpsons episode!! they are absolutly great... But I just have alitte problem at the moment. I live in Switzerland now, and here they only show the Simpsons translated into german language. Its terrible but I watch it anyway!

Bart & Lisa philosophising with Krusty's rabbi father and he says that he's too busy to talk. He was about to do a circumcision. You had to be quick to see that one.

Marge: We can only afford to send you to the best college is South Carolina.
Lisa: I will NOT be a Gamecock!
Homer: Oh... yes.... you.... will! Go....GAMECOCKS!

-----------

Monty Burns: [stepping on buildings in a model of Springfield] Goodbye Quickie Mart! Goodbye Moe's Tavern! Goodbye Nuclear Power Plant! Ah fiddlesticks!

------------

Homer: Before I got this job, I didn't even know what a nuclear panner [sic] plant was.

------------

Homer: When did we stop rooting for the guy with the flame thrower? I blame the internet, and the return of swing music.

------------

Mr. Sparkle Commercial: Disrespectful to dirt!

------------

Jockeys: We are the jockeys, jockeys are we. We live underground in a fiberglass tree. 'Tween earth and hell we riegn supreme, with toadstool chairs beside a chocolate stream. But all is not well in jockey town. Your renegade horse is making us frown. Your horse must lose!
Homer: My horse must lose?
Jockeys: No win, no [something], no grace. Just lose the stinkin' race.
Homer: And what if I refuse to lose?
Jockeys: We'll eat your brain!
Homer: My horse must lose!

Homer: Was that real, or just a wonderful dream?
Jockey: No dream! Lose the race fatboy!

QIguy24,
are you watching the (relatively) new episodes on 3+?

I absolutely cracked up when I saw the "Mr. Spritz goes to Washington" episode, with all the aircrafts.

Qlguy24 - my favourite episode is "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" as well, utterly brilliant.

"King Size Homer" is a good one too, where Homer deliberately gains weight so he can be signed off work. A quote from memory:

(Automated telephone answer) "The fingers you have used to dial are too fat, to obtain a special dialing wand please mash the keypad with your palm now."

But my favourite scene has to be Homer and Lisa in the car (no idea what episode), Homer's letting forth with some bleeped out abuse at a vehicle in front of them:

Lisa "Dad, that's an ambulance!"
Homer "$?*!$$!*! ambulance, think you're so big with your blue lights and letters on backwards......."

Makes me laugh every time....

Not all "older people" dislike The Simpsons. I think it is some of the best social commentary being written in our times. More clever references and sharp insights in one episode than in a whole season of other TV.

Some favorites:

Homer runs into a statue of a deer at the Springfield Tar Pits.
Homer: "Doh!"
Marge: "A deer!"
Lisa: "A female deer."

The gun shop called "Bloodbath and Beyond"

Ned Flanders: "Flanders to God, Flanders to God, get off your cloud and save my Todd"
Lightning strikes a tree which falls across the river allowing Todd to get out of the river.
Ned Flanders: "Thanks"
God: "Okelly dokelly"

Ned Flanders as Paris of Troy receiving the (wooden) Trojan Horse from Homer: "In ages to come, whenever men get wood I want them to think of Trojans."

And last but not least, Marge: "Holy crap!" She is just so adorable saying that!

Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

Agree with Slam...

Some of us "older folks" recognize the writing on "The Simpsons" at its better moments to be the sharpest and most insightful social commentary of the last 20 years. As the writing becomes more hit or miss lately I miss some of the older episodes, which I've seen over and over again and are funnier every time I watch them. I find myself quoting them in everyday speech.

Anyway...

Homer: "If you don't like your job, you don't strike. You just go in there every day and do it half-assed. That's the American way!"

(sign)
Springfield Downs Dog Track
"Think of them as little horses"

(praying)
Homer: "I'm not a religious man, but, if you're up there...save me, Superman, save me!"

(some adult movie titles in "The Simpsons")
For Your Thighs Only
Sperms of Endearment
Das Butt

(Homer crashes his car and the insurance adjuster is interviewing him)
Insurance man: "Before you crashed your car, you were at a place called 'Moe's'...what kind of an establishment is this?"
Homer: "It's...a pornography store. I was buying pornagraphy."
"On spaceship earth there are no passengers...only crew."

I have noticed the writing in the Simpsons has held up better over the last.. what? 10 years better than just about any other show on TV. My girlfriend being totally uncultured and having never seen a movie that was not overhyped and never watching or at least not getting the news doesn't get probably 50% of what goes on during the show. It fascinates me how I will be laughing hysterically at something and she will just have a dumb look on her face. Then I have to explain what went on and it totally kills any joke that took place.

I thought the death of Family Guy, another show my girlfriend never got, was a sign that comedy for us few well rounded people with a brain was dying out. The Simpsons keeps hope alive for me that we are not all doomed to more mindless and almost insulting humor like South Park and Punk'd.

Homer: "O Jesus, Allah, Buddha...I love you all!"

FBI(Mulder): "Now homer this is a simple lie detector test. Just answer the question truthfully. Do you understand?
Homer: "yes"
Lie detector blows up....

Homer:"that's tennis? What's the one where the chicks wail on each other?
Lisa: "Foxy Boxing?"
Homer: "yes...thats what i wanted"

bart: "Telegram for Lisa Simpson...Dear Lisa..psych psych psych"
Homer: "I think he's trying to psych you out"

Homer: "I'm not not licking toads"

I also think the Tennis episode is the funniest one.

My mum hates that show with a passion, i love it

My fav quote is "Help me jebus" as he is being whisked away to a far away country to be a missonary.

I like all the episodes, i just wish they would say where they are,
Near the sea, internatioanl airport.
There have been some episodes where they have nearly said it
one that springs to mind "simpsons, evergreen terrace, spingfield, ohhhhh...hiya maud"

Where does the time go???

My favorite is:

"Film Festival!" Film Festival!"

"Oh Cry for me. I'm already dead."- Barney Gumble

Other Good Ones:

- When Bart swings from the building as a baby
- Airshow One (saw that one last night)

I can never seem to remember my favorite quotes...but my favorite moment had to be when Homer made the customized video with Lisa in it for her birthday. That had me laughing for the longest time...had a picture of Lisa's head on a sheriff character's body, and Homer's voice for all of "Sheriff Lisa Simpson's" lines. Flanders made a video for one of his sons too...absolutely hilarious....

Priceless lines I have read so far indeed.

-When guest stars are in the Simpsons I always get a kick out of it. Such as when British T-Bag Simon Cowell was in for last week and Homer at the end beat the clocks out of him! Simon Says "ya know, that punch felt like..so what?"
Another one, Luke Skywalker "Use the For-" THE FORCE? "No..The Forks." The knife landing only a cm from Lukes face.
Homer plays as the Mayors Body guard and other than the Rat Milk lol, puts their entire family out unconscious cuz its 1hr before dinner..

-When Bart buys that warehouse for 1 dollar and Milhouse was under watch, the joint collapsed and all these Whordes of rats all converged into Moes Tavern.. "Alright Everybody, tuck your pants in your socks!"

-Mr Burns got broke and he used Lisa to help build himself back up. Lisa rips the 10% cheque and Homer's legs buckle as he collapses backward.
"I'm so sorry dad"
"Thats okay, we sure could of used the 12,000 dollars"
"umm, 10% of 120 million ISN'T 12,000, its 12---"
CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!

-Barts rendition of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.. (PENNY JAR OF HOMERS) THe hilarious escape routes and rolling ball homer.
LMAO for a long while. At the end, Bart escapes and Homer runs out with a rake in his banana undies and starts babbling away in some Tribal tongue..

-Simpsons go to Canada or as Homer says "America Junior" and go on First Class.....Motorcoach.
-Simpsons go to Brazil for Carnival!.. Homer hostage by The kind kidnappers.
-Simpsons go to Spring Break and then gets banned in FL and 47 other states

Any episodes where Homer takes a particular role/occupation like.. CLOWN,Semi Driver,Pro Boxer,Monorail engineer,Sexual Harrasser,Inventor,Gay Roomie, Obese Employee..

"Hey fatso, I got a movie for you... A Fridge Too Far!!" -LOL

what about the one when lisa becomes vegetarian and launches the bbq pig down the hill

Mr Burns "you know what smithers i might donate a 1,000,000 dollars to charity......................................................................If pigs fly"

the bbq pig goes flying across

Smithers "will you be donating that 1,000,000 dollars sir"
Burns"no"

The one with mary bobbins

as she flies off at the end

Lisa "wow do you think we'll ever see her again"
Homer "i'm sure we will someday honey"
as mary bobbins qets chewed up by a plane engine in the distance

When Homer and the family enter the Witness Relocation Program and has to change his identity:

Agent: "Tell you what, sir. From now on, you'll be Homer Thompson at Terror Lake. Let's just practice a bit, okay? When I say 'Hello, Mr. Thompson' you'll say 'Hi'"
Homer: "Check."
Agent: "Hello, Mr. Thompson"
Homer: (stares)
Agent: "Remember now, your name is Homer Thompson."
Homer: "Gotcha."
Agent: "Hello, Mr. Thompson."
Homer: (stares)
(an hour later)
Agent: "Now, when I say 'Hello, Mr. Thompson' and press down on your foot, just smile and nod."
Homer: "No problem."
Agent: "Hello, Mr. Thompson!" (steps on Homer's foot a few times)
Homer: (stares at his foot and back at the agent, then leans over to another agent) "I think he's talking to you."

Its hard to find one favorite quote or episode from the Simpsons, in my opinion, the best show ever made for TV.

I like when they come here to Rio and Homer gets kidnapped. "My American friend, I'm afraid this is a kidnapping."
Homer: "So that means I don't have to pay the fare?"
Kidnapper: "Um....no."
Homer: "U-hu!"
Kidnapper: "I'm afraid you don't understand the seriousness of the situation..."

and also when they pay the ransom, the kidnappers go "Look at all that pink and purple (colors of the 5 and 10 reais bills, Brazilian currency)! Our money sure is gay." hehehhehe

I love it when they make fun of the fact you get tons of episode when Homer never goes to work. There's the one he's taping Flanders and Bart goes: "What are you doing dad?" "I'm taping Flanders for a date video" "Do you even have a job anymore?", "I think its pretty obvious that I don't!".

Or the classic, Marge: "Homer, you're late for work!" he replies "Mr. Smithers said if I'm late one more time he'd fire me. I can't take that chance." and he opens a can of beer and stays home.

But a great moment too is when Homer visits the Duff Brewery and the clock gongs and out comes this lazy looking doll, sitting on an armchair with a Duff in his hand and he burps.

Another few favorite moments of mine is from the episode "Bart of Darkness":

Homer: All right. Everybody in the pool!
Amish: 'Tis a fine barn, but sure 'tis no pool, English.
Homer: D'oh-eth!

Bart: People, people! It's time we all discussed the pool safety rules!
Kids: [chanting] Jump, Bart, jump! Jump, Bart, jump!
Bart: You got it!
Nelson: Hey, Bart! Your epidermis is showing.
Bart: [worried] It is? [checks himself]
[the kids laugh]
[Bart falls, starts yelling]
Nelson: [to Kearney] See, "epidermis" means your hair.
[Bart lands with a thud]
So technically it's true. That's what makes it so funny.
Pardon me a moment --
[at Bart] Ha ha!
Milhouse: Hey Nelson, he's really hurt. I think he broke his leg.
Nelson: [exasperated] I said, "Ha ha"!

I used to be able to recite it, but I can't recite the whole thing verbatim anymore. The scene where Wiggum, Eddie and Lou are in the Krusty Burger:

Lou: You know, I went to a McDonalds restaurant in Shelbyville last night.
Chief: A McWhat?
Lou: A McDonalds restaurant, I had never heard of it either. They have over 1,300 locations in this state alone.
Eddie: Must have sprung up overnight
Lou: But you know, its the little differences
Chief: Example
Lou: Well you can get a Krusty Burger with Cheese, except they don't call it a Krusty Burger with Cheese
Chief: Get out, what do they call it
Lou: A quarter pounder with Cheese
Chief: Well, I can picture the cheese, but, uh, do they have Krusty Partially Gelatinated, non dairy gum based beverages?
Lou: Yup They call them "shakes"
Eddie: Puh, "shakes", Chief, what you gettin'?
Chief: Well I know what I'm getting, some doughnuts. Uh, help me out of the booth boys.

also

"Homer No function Beer Well Without"

and, from the episode where Homer becomes a sugar entrepreneur:

Homer: Look marge, I made a dollar today
Marge: Great, and while you were out earning that dollar, you lost 100 dollars by not going to work today. By the way, work called today and said if you don't go to work tomorrow, don't worry about coming in on Monday.
Homer: Woo Hoo, a four day weekend!

Is it just me, or are the quality episodes from the last three or so years going down hill?

I don't agree.

Season 13 and 14 have been really good in my opinion. Maybe 12 wasn't the best, but the new episodes are coming out really funny.

Lisa: As you know, we've been swimming. And we've developed a taste for it. We agree that getting our own pool is the way to go. Now before you respond, you should know that your refusal will result in months and months of...
Bart and Lisa: CanwehaveapoolDad? CanwehaveapoolDad? CanwehaveapoolDad? CanwehaveapoolDad? CanwehaveapoolDad?
Homer: I understand. Let us celebrate our agreement with the adding of chocolate to milk.

Homer to Mr. Burns: Here are your messages Mr. Burns..... You have 30 minutes to move your car. You have 10 minutes. Your car has been impounded. Your car has been crushed into a cube. You have 30 minutes to move your cube.

Lisa: I want you to shut off the logical part of your mind.
Bart: Okay.
Lisa: Embrace nothingness.
Bart: You got it.
Lisa: Become like an uncarved stone.
Bart: Done.
Lisa: Bart, you're just pretending to know what I'm talking about!
Bart: True.
Lisa: Well, it's very frustrating!
Bart: I'll bet.

Bart Simpson: Dad, I think I need some fresh air. Can I go to the park?
Homer Simpson: Do I have to sit up?
Bart Simpson: No.
Homer Simpson: Knock yourself out.

[Homer tries to gain passage on an escape rocket.]
Homer Simpson: I am the piano genius from the movie "Shine."
Guard: And your name is...?
Homer Simpson: Uhh... Shiney McShine

Homer Simpson: There, there, Bart. If something's hard, then it's not worth doing.

Homer's ghost: Marge you gotta help me, I have to do one good deed to get into heaven.
Marge: Well I got a whole list of chores: clean the garage, paint the house...
Homer's ghost: Whoa whoa whoa. I'm just trying to get in, I'm not running for Jesus.

Also from the sugar episode (ala Scarface):

Homer: "In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power and then you get the women."

Or when he was trying to prevent the bees from getting to his pile of sugar:

Homer: "Oww...owwww! They're defending themselves, somehow."
"On spaceship earth there are no passengers...only crew."

Marge: Have you noticed any change in Bart?
Homer: New glasses?
Marge: No...he looks like something might be disturbing him.
Homer: Probably misses his old glasses.
Marge: I guess we could get more involved in Bart's activities but then
I'd be afraid of smothering him.
Homer: Yeah, and then we'd get the chair.
Marge: That's not what I meant.
Homer: It was, Marge, admit it.

The one were Lisa is asked out by Ralph is pretty good, I love this part:

(Chief Wignam Pulls Homer over and smashes his tail light)
Homer= You know honest citizens are one day going to stand up to you crooked cops
Chief Wignam= Oh no, no. Did they set a date?

Also in the same episode:

(Krusty is going through old videos of him in the 1970's)
1970 Krusty= "Trying to run, trying to hide. Break on through to the other side. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Current Krusty= "What was I on?"
Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story

(taking a test)
Ralph: (whispers) "Lisa, what's the answer to number seven?"
Lisa: (whispers) "Sorry, Ralph. That would defeat the purpose of testing as a means of student evaluation."
Ralph: (pauses, then whispers) "My cat's name is Mittens."

(and later, with Ralph, Lisa and Lisa's friend walking home)
Lisa: "Hey Ralph, want to come with me and Alison to play Anagrams?"
Alison: "We take proper names and rearrange the letters to form a description of that person."
Ralph: (pauses) "My cat's breath smells like cat food."
"On spaceship earth there are no passengers...only crew."

While on the simpsons, can anyone remember the name of the episode where Lisa fears that she's becoming stupid and sinking to the level of Bart & Homer (they show some trophy's that Bart won in 4th grade spelling competions & the like).

She ends up realizing that the degrading stupidity only affects the male members of the Simpsons family.
