What Is The Most You Would Pay For It?

Thu Mar 25, 2004 12:08 pm

I am used to paying $14 dollars, tip included, for a mens regular haircut, at a barbershop.

Nothing fancy, I just need to get up and go in the morning withthe least amount of BS in the morning.

Well, getting married in less that 6 weeks, I decided to go to one of these trendy Spa/Salons, which I NEVER go to.

I felt that after 10 years of the same routine, I needed some advice. I needed a pro, and not someone who just says, "What do you want?" I mean, I really dont know what I want. I'm no stylist!

I was referred to the place by a guy in our bridal party.

I made an appt with a guy in the salon who specializes in mens haircuts. He is a SENIOR level, so he cost 40 dollars! But his credentails included studies in work and studies in London and Paris, so I figured I would be open minded and if not happy, just continue with $14 cuts.

But I gotta tell you, I am impressed. It was worth it. I used to think that paying over 15 dollars for a haircut was BS. But I see the benefit.

What is your experience?

What is the most you have or would pay for a haircut?

The going rate in DC is $25, even for those of us with thinning hair.

I once paid $35 for a shampoo and shower at the Ilo spa in Georgetown (D.C.)

I also once got a haircut and massage at the Molton-Brown spa at BA T4 at LHR. Considering what I paid for the Club class ticket, that was probably my most expensive ever.

Normally, I pay $10 for a cut from a nice Vietnamese lady I know.

I just got word of my annual bonus and this year I'm pulling down 20 ladge. I'm going to buy a widescreen, some sorely needed bass-fishing hardware and a $12 haircut (with a $3 tip).

I pay $13.00 once a month. I walk in and say "number 4 all across." I like my hair in a military cut since it requires little more than a comb drag once a day.

$11 + $3-$5 tip, depending on how long they take. I go every 3 or 4 weeks to a salon, nothing fancy. The girls there are very nice, been going for years (at least 5) and are on a first name basis.

Its 13 for the cut and 35 for the dye so about $55.00 depending on which girl does it.

Geeeze I am getting ripped off, I go to this place that uses AVADA and I pay about 64Canadian for a Cut and Highlight. That includes a Wash and Conditioner as well. I leave about a 6 dollar tip normally.

I always find that barbers tend to do a better job-they're cheap, and they give a sharper, cleaner cut. I pay $24 for my haircuts which is around 18 US dollars. Never dissatisfied.
The one thing unbeatable about some salons is when they throw in a head massage by one of those good looking chicks. Hmmm. Who cares what you look like after that!

Tipping is common place 747400F. It usually is an assumed part of their wages also.

KROC, if it is assumed then why not just include it in the price? Must be yet another US-northern Europe difference. Makes life harder for visitors to always have to remember that the price is not the price.

To me a tip is a sign of gratitude for service rendered BEYOND what you pay for.

Here in São Paulo, prices are also pretty varied. There's a very posh place where Gisele Bundchen and the other models go to for haircuts when they're in town; that'll run you about US$100.00. You get coffee/tea and lord knows what other perks.

I go to a place down the street that's about a dollar.

I pay around $25 for a regular haircut.

I have never heard about tipping the hairdresser..

I've been to expensive places where it costs around $50, and I've come to the realization that no matter where I get my haircut, its gonna look like crap until it grows out a bit. Now, I just go to SuperCuts, get it clipped for $15, and leave a $3 tip.

The last place I went to I paid 12 bucks plus left a 2 dollar tip. I've had mixed results with those unisex hair cut places like SuperCuts and Cost Cutters. And half of the time you feel like those places are like brothels. You check-in up front, the girl calls you back, she does her thing for 10 minutes, you straighten up, head up front and pay the madame and go home.

The problem is that since I keep moving around I don't get a chance to establish a relationship with any given hair dresser or barber. I would like to find a good old fashion barber shop, the kind that has the same chairs since the 50s, good magazines, and all sorts of crap on the wall. But those kinds of places are getting harder and harder to find.

So it seems like most of you follow the original route that I have.

I'll tell you, today I am getting some real nice compliments. A lot of people saying it looks different and very nice.

The guy suggested staying away from gels and hairsprays and going with this paste/wax like stuff, interesting 'technology' called sumotech

It was a surreal experience though. A whole bunch of eye candy (bodacious bods) work there, pamper you, offering wine, tea or coffee while you arebeing worked on. Very chique.

Also, the guy only used clippers to do the back and ears. Otherwise the entire hairdo was done with scissors.

Just all interesting to me!

I pay $8.00 + $2.00 tip. I always am impressed with the way my hair turns out after I get it cut. I get it cut at a locally owned and operated place. I hate Big Chains like Fantastic Sams, and Cost Cutters.

My haircut costs my parents about $21 CAD plus a $5 tip. I have been going to the same salon for about 3 years now, and my hairdresser and I are on a first name basis. I have my hair cut about every 3-4 weeks, depending on how long it is, and I find that he does a better job than a lot of the other people that I've been to.

I pay $13 + a $2 tip. Ever since I started going for the buzz cut a few years back, I only have to get a haircut once every 6-8 weeks. Now if the price goes up to $15, I'm buying me a pair of clippers and doing it myself, or I'll start going to one of those barber colleges (hey it's cheap, and it's hard to screw up a buzz cut unless you don't use a guard).

My haircut is free, my girlfriend cuts it in her backyard. She does a really good job too. Then after she cuts it I get a shampoo, a massage, and dinner. That's hard to beat for a college kid like myself.

Well JCS, I guess you get what you pay for...

Actually, thats when its looking pretty good. The picture just doesn't do my haircut justice in that picture. In fact, I really don't like having my haircut short like that--where I spike it up in the front. It looks best when its long (to the middle of my ears) and shaggy. The problem with that is that I can only wear a hat with that hairstyle because it looks really sloppy without one. I can't show up to my job with sloppy, ungroomed hair.

Also, my mum tends to bitch at me when I come home and my hair is long. I don't want any part of that.
