Part-time Jobs For Overseas Students At Sydney, AU

Thu Apr 22, 2004 8:53 pm

I am an International Student at The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and I hold Canadian Passport. How do I apply for a working permit???? Any good part-time jobs that you recommend? And where do I find them????

I am available on Saturdays and Sundays only. Maybe on some weekdays too.

Please advice. Thanks!

Go to a small shop for part time work as they are likely to give you cash-in-hand. No questions asked, tax free cash - but you didn't see me write this did you?

Sure the future employment opportunities of working in a small grocers, newsagency or cafe aren't huge, but you avoid the pain of dealing with the department of immigration.

Hi United Airline,
As an ex-overseas student, I had difficulty in looking for jobs to fit my uni schedules, as you may be currently experiencing. What I may suggest is for you to look at the neighbourhood papers. They list various odd jobs like walking dogs, babysitting, cafe stuff etc. These jobs may not pay fantastically, but they do help with the bills. I would assume that they are AUD10 and above. Try not to be choosy when you are in a situation like this. THe alternative it to work for Coles/Woolworth (supermarket) which constantly look for night fillers (staff who stock supermarket shelves after hours). I hope this helps.
